Here's a whole page on the subject but nothing about waking every hour to "do a reality check". Perhaps you've been misinformed.

You do the reality checks in real life as often as you can. It's so it becomes natural to you then you'd more than likely do it in a dream and discover that you're dreaming.

I use a combination of reality checks each time. The most common are looking twice at text or a digital clock, looking at your hands, and trying to inhale or exhale out your nose while you hold it (just looks like you have to sneeze).

If you're interested in lucid dreaming (love it myself hence my name lol) there are several good sites here on the web. lucidity.com , dreamviews.com , and ld4all.com. My personal favorite is ld4all.com.

What? I never heard of that, but then again, I don't lucid dream for hours. Usually it's just for perhaps a few seconds. That'll be really neat though.
