If so, isn't that just a weeeee bit inconsistent with Jesus' teachings?

Hafeman, cut the ****. You know what I mean by beautiful...
is it a large building that is beautifully decorated with nothing but the best?

don't avoid the issue with lexical games.

and if you don't understand how praying to Jesus in a $1,000,000 church is inconsistent with Christ's message, all I can assume is that you don't understand the message.

I wouldn't say our church is the most beautiful building...but it is really big. We do tons of outreaches to the community, such as holding single parents fairs with free oil changes, legal advise, etc, as well as a food pantry, services to the homeless, refugee communities, those suffering with AIDS, an after-school program for inner city youth... our church building was really expensive, but it enables us to serve the community and the poor so much.

I'm not sure which of Jesus's teachings you're referring to. I lived in Africa for over a year and a half, and have struggled with all the money poured into church buildings when a big part of the mission of the church should be helping the poor in the world. But I look at our church and see all the great things they are able to do and provide as a result of the large building, and I see that the money put into the structure is wisely spent, and an investment into the community.

No. My church meets in an elementary school assembly hall. My church before that shared a building with another congregation. The building was an old church rectory. Just an old house. My church before that (We move every 2 years with my husband's job.) was a large building, but it had 2500 members and built what it could afford to accommodate the needs of the members. The one before that was absolutely austentatious! We didn't attend there long because they seemed more concerned about image and biulding a kingdom unto themselves. Not my kind of people. The church before that met in an auditorium, and the one before that met in a Pastor's home and shared time with the local YMCA.

They are nice, but not so much in my town. I was actually thinking of buying up an old church to live in. How super awesome would that be?

I do think that churches should not be tax-exempt though. If a group of followers is not driven enough by the will of GOD to fund the facility in which they worship 100% then maybe it doesn't deserve to be open. :)

the local church is actually pretty modest - but it was built by the locals many years ago and they didn't have much money to put in to it. My favorite church (and I'm not Christian) is the one my boss and his wife run. They have a mobile church - have the chairs packed in a little trailer and every Sunday set it up in a local gymnasium for church.

My church gets lost from the outside, but the inside is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen! When I walk in, I am immediately aware that I am standing on Holy ground and in God's presence. Isn't that what Jesus wanted?

No,

We are supposed to find a peaceful quiet place to pray. That is the example that Jesus gave us.

I do think that the personal excesses of some preachers are bad though!

Peace!

Of course they are... and what's more does the church have a big fancy church organ in it? Do you have ANY idea how much those things cost? 20g's easy. Think of how much food that would buy for homeless starving people.
