Well Leo, but Not so Odd that Jews Chose God.
In order that all men may be taught to speak Truth, it is necessary that all likewise should learn to hear it.
-- Dr Samuel Johnson, English author, poet, critic & lexicographer (1709-1784)
How odd of God to choose the Jews.
Not odd of God. Goyim annoy 'im.
But not so odd as those who choose
A Jewish God Yet spurn the Jews.
-- William Norman Ewer, Leo Rosten, Cecil Browne, Ogden Nash
Here we go again. Yet again the SAME IGNORANT question.
Here is the answer. Are you listening.
This "Chosen Race" misconception is based on ignorance of the Bible especially the Covenant of God.
It is not so much that God chose the Jews, as the Jews CHOSE God. The Covenant was offered to all the nations, but no one else accepted it at the time - over 5,000 years ago.
This was in ancient times when nations like the Sumerians, ancient Egyptians, Assyrians and Babylonians existed. Before nations like England, France, America, Germany and even the Greeks and Romans were on the map.
Judaism is the World's FIRST and OLDEST Monotheist Religion, and predates Hinduism contrary to what some people are saying.
G-d NEVER chose the Jewish people as superior to other peoples but to fulfill a "Spiritual Calling". The Jewish people accepted a Spiritual mission, not a material one. Jewish people don't think they are racially superior. Jews represent a microcosm of Humanity in the Bible. The Jewish people in the Bible are a metaphor for all the failings of Humanity. God makes an example for all Humanity of what to do, as well as what not to do in the Bible through the example of the Jewish people.
If anything that is a great Burden and Challenge, and hasn't bestowed any great material benefit on the Jewish people as witnessed by the hardships of history.
Isaiah said the mission of the Jewish people was to be "a Light and Beacon unto the Nations".
G-d created the World to have DIVERSITY.
G-d's Covenant with the Jewish people through Abraham and Moses DOES NOT exclude the possibility of other peoples, cultures and faiths, for example Buddhism, finding their own relationship with G-d through the UNIVERSAL SHARED framework of the Covenant of Noah.
And I believe the same applies to the Covenants of Abraham and Moses for all peoples as Mosaic Law and the Ten Commandments are UNIVERSAL and enshrined in the fabric of the modern world in our law, ethics and morality.
All things are mortal but the Jew: all other forces pass, but he remains. What is the secret of his immortality?
-- Mark Twain

i think of you statemnt is unusual. Religions, of all varieties, are crammed with ritual. once you eliminate ritual from faith, you throw ut the toddler with the bathwater, because of the fact they the two bypass hand in hand. i'm no longer a Jew, yet on a similar time as a Roman Catholic, they carry genuine to the previous Testement ideals. that's not unusual that they chosen the jews, because of the fact accordingt to all that's solid, the jews have been right here first, even fi they have been right here with human beings on the comparable time, they have been the renowned ones, and thats that

God didn't choose the Jews, the Jews chose God !! He may have appeared somewhere else, only those people clearly didn't believe, or just would not accept the idea of God . The Jews however, believed and the rest as they say is history !
I think it's people who make God real , without belief there would be no God...would there ?

Grace is fundamental to both Judaism and Christianity. Grace says that people are chosen not on the basis of any merit, i.e. irrespective of being good looking, intelligent, rich, athletic, successful, or whatever quality you choose. The chosen people were chosen for God's purposes, to demonstrate his mercy irrespective of whether they deserved it or not. If the Jewish race knew that claiming to be the chosen people would result in such a long history of persecution and holocaust, they might have preferred an easy life.

No I don't think so. The average IQ of a Jew is a standard deviation above average, and intelligence is the only relevant element of greatness. With technology tending towards subjugating all those who can't evolve rapidly enough, Jews will once again be survivors. I'm not Jewish but I have to say if I could choose they would probably be among my favorites in the ethnic extraction category. Even so, they do show plenty of short comings to make it certain God was at least speaking tongue-in-cheek when he labeled them. Chosen for suffering, he probably meant. I dunno. I think it's odd of God to choose anyone, because that represents a devastating bias away from the poor red-headed step-children of god, us "unchosen" ones. Still with the way genetics works it's important to realize that there is a plentiful quantity of jewish blood is every single one us, statistically even in those from Asia and Africa. I could go into this on another forum, because it's a lengthy argument. In any case, the weren't chosen so much as naturally selected, and I think they make a good care of being humble, but then a few, the insecure, oversell themselves and hurt their cause. If I were Jewish I would do what I could to get deselected, personally.

It wasn't odd for Him to choose the Jews, He is God and we can not question him though we have a lot of questions to ask. The Jews were not special in anyway, in-fact they did so many wrong from disobeying His law to worshipping other gods, so they have nothing in their favour. He chose them because He is God

God is in the habit of doing odd, new things.
He created the heavens and the earth out of nothing at all.
Then, he took a backward little group of stiff-necked, funny looking people, and through them, brought about the salvation of all mankind.
Most people still don't understand exactly how that worked, either ... but it did.
What else would you expect from the most creative intellect, and the most powerful being in the universe?
Think of it as a sign from God!

My theory - God chose the Jews - then sent Jesus - those who followed Jesus and BELIEVE in Christ are now the "new Jews" and the chosen ones - read Revelation - or the "Left Behind" series of books - your eyes will be opened!

Not as odd as one might guess. The Chosen people were chosen, not to be saved but to show how people might live despite all of the hardships that befell them. The Jews were, after all, the most disenfranchised of all people on earth at the time.

That is what the jews say - that they are the chosen ones. Every religious group can claim the same. No one will know for sure as it is not possible to find out as to who did or will god choose.
