Hay it might sound weird to some people but all I use is a worm and it works every time all day long.

Bass fishing is awsome. Keep it simple but buy quality rod and reels. Fishing line is also a major factor in it as well. When I first started to learn the great sport I used SpiderWire 50lb. You can feel when the bass hits the lure and feel all the structure down on the bottom. Good Luck With It. It is a great sport, and dont forget to share the knowledge with a child they can learn with you. And always have a Basskickintime.

Well to start with get a decent qualty rod and reel ( I use pflueger reels and bass pro shops rods, extreme is a real good choice if you don't want to spend alot go with a tourney special rod they are pretty good also for about 60 dollars less). I have been tournment fishing for bass for 5 years. So I think I can probably help you get started. Their are alot of different ways to catch bass, the farm ponds are the easy ones, then go to lakes or resiviors, and river systems. The easiest way to catch a bass is probably with a senko ( try a black with blue flake or green pumkin) on most waters and you'll catch them, check at a local sporting goods store and you may get a little more info on what works in your area. This is pretty simple tie on a 2/0 or 3/0 wide gap hook on 8 to 10lb. line and cast out to weed edges or timber, any type of structure basically and the worm will sink at aprox. a foot a second, depending on the wind, this works best on hot sunny days with no wind, some times the fish will grab it on the fall and other days you'll have to let it set for a couple of minutes. A spinner bait in white or white/chart. is a good choice on a windy day, tie on and cast out and wind in, the fish may want it to be a fast retrieve on some days and a slow retrieve on other days. The third thing I would try is a drop shot, which is putting enough weight on to get to the bottom and having a hook above the weight about 2 to 3 feet( they sell hooks at basspro shops for this with the instructions on how to rig it up on the package) it works pretty good for lure choices a 4in. senko, a tube bait or a drop shot worm( finess- small tiny worms). cast out and put light tension on the line and when one bites their will be no question unless they are mealy biters in your area in that case you will feel extra weight and just lift up and set hook most of the time you can just lift up and they will be hooked, I use a size 1 or 1/0 hook for this. Up in the north we don't have big hogs like in the south and west. A big fish is pretty much anything over 5 lbs. in the bass, I have caught 6lbs large mouth and almost 7lbs small mouth but not verry often up here. Using the drop shot in the last tournment I caught aprox. 25 fish in about 31/2 hours. The biggest was about 4lbs. and alot of two pound fish(that's average for where we were fishing) the big fish of that tourney was just over 6lbs. A real good way to learn in to fish in a club as a non-boater or in the BFL(FLW OUTDOORS) week end tournments as a co-angler. It cost 100 dollars for the regular tournments and 150 dollars for the two day tournment at the end of the year, you can learn alot from these fishermen and you'll have fun and maybe win some money most of the time the tourney's will pay back 30 to 40 places and the winner will get around 2500 dollars. If you want more info feel free to email me at bmck33@yahoo.com and good luck go out and catch a big one

OK.,first you need to find out the type of bait fish is in the area..shads, crawfish. ect. use lures that mimic and to try to attract them ,spinner bait, crank baits, top water, and so on...now the fun part trying to find out what they want is the hard part as bass fishing can change dramatically overnight. But first of all have fun!!

if you would like to learn how to bass fish your best bet is to join a bass club. call b.a.s.s. and operation bass and get the numbers for your local state federations. then you can contact them to find out if there are any local clubs in your area.

Use things that will attract them. What i think is the spinner bait bass will strike or run so don`t cast in the same spot. And try to get your bait on top of water as fast as possible.Fish along the bank. A trolling motor is somthing else needed u can get up there without disturbing them.Cause if u do their gone. GOOD LUCK YOU WILL NEED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You can fish soft plastics slow along the bottom. You can use crank-baits match them to bait fish in your lake. Spinner baits are a great bait as well.
