I'm an agnostic, someone who usually votes Republican, not so much the last two elections cause of the neo-conservative disagreements, but probably will again if they run a stronger conservative.

What can I learn from a Democrat?

"The only thing we have to fear is fear itself?" FDR (D)

"Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country" JFK (D)

Can we learn something from people of different political parties. Can we learn something from people of different religions. I'm not talking about going to a class about driving and having someone different teach you how to parallel park.

I'm talking big ideas. Life changing ideas. Ideas about how you view the world and your self and your soul.

Did you have,
today,
a
mansion
of
thought,
as I did?

I don't know, but if the Xtians would shut up already (i.e stop trying to save everyone), we could probably learn that their values (love, compassion, truth, service...) are noble and something to aspire to.

I try to have an open mind on most issues. I have certain beliefs I am not going to discard but on other things I learn a great deal by listening to others and their experiences and points of view. Even on the things I am set about listening to the opposing viewpoint is good as I can sometimes see where they are coming from and why they think that way and sometimes can change their minds, or at least convince them that my way isn't bad either.

Otherwise I have been sick for two days and instead of a mansion I would have a doghouse. Can't think any deeper than this until the meds wear off.

It would be nice if someone with a genuine interest in the well being of Americans ran for office someday. Those whom you've quoted in your details are a dying breed that could infact already be extinct amoung politicians. Sadly, survival of the fittest doesn't workout quite well in the government. I am open to learn new things from any person or experience good and bad alike. Which is why my decendants will rule the world. LOL just kidding

Actually I think it is one of the main ways we learn is by others with different ideas from ourselves. If you surround yourself with people totally like you where do new ideas originate? It would be the same old thing day after day. It's the differences that make learning, that make us unique and make us interesting.

I am a political Independent. I always vote a split ticket. I feel there is value from both parties and as such that is what I support. It is the same with different belief systems, even if we don't agree, even if we don't believe there is value in every one. We only have to open ourselves to see it.

Wow, what a great question.
I am a Democrat, a pretty vocal one at that, I wonder what I could teach you? It would be a bit sanctimonious to believe that because of my political opinion I could somehow enlighten your view, because they are just that...views.
This question did for me, what you intended, It made me think and hope, I hope that I change the life of everyone I meet for the better, and I hope I listen rather than sermonize. Maybe I will learn what keeps opposing views apart and what can bring us together, maybe we can all find the path of tolerance and acceptance.
A Republican…huh.

There is a reason we have two ears and one mouth.

There have been times when I have answered questions on this forum only to see that a Muslim or a Buddhist gave essentially the same answer, but added a new level of insight to that belief that we shared . I have learned a lot from people of other faiths.

It's not all about me, me, me. I enjoy listening to what others have to say.

Hello fellow Republican.
Political policies can be either right or wrong, and so can religions, but the fact that there is right and wrong, and where the right comes from and where the wrong comes from is not a matter of opinion.
And yes, you did have better thoughts today than usual, congrats.

I try to have a mansion
of thought every day, but usually it just ends up a cottage like this.

We live in a world where the insane is quickly outnumbering the sane. I would be afraid to see what alot of people actually do think in this day and age.

Look at Heavens Gate, David Keresh, KKK, Islam, Irelands militia group.

These people BELIEVE what they are doing is right, and good.

So you learned a few slogans. Not much to go with that. Fries perhaps.

It's not the slogans or words, it's what peopple actually do that counts. FDR: "New Deal", JFK: Space!

Okay, you are now in trouble, take a break Jim! We can all learn a lot from each other if we'd set aside our religious, political, and racial differences, but it's a hard task....world peace would be great though, huh?
