They are embedded in the files that you download.

Keep VERY up to date virus software running.

Personally, I would not use it.

I use limewire and i have only received one virus. It was immediately detected by Norton Anti-virus and was removed right away. As long as you have an antivirus program with real-time monitoring you will be fine. PS I Have Downloaded Over 500 Songs On Limewire so u can trust me.

i would stay away from limewire unless you have a good security system! (norton, kasperskey, etc.)

you can attach a virus to a file very easily. when you execute the file you think you just downloaded, there may be a virus attached to that and you not know. this would casue the file to run like normal (a music file, movie, doc. etc) but would also cause the virus to execute...then you are pretty much screwed...

try using torrents MUCH safer and better quality files

Viruses are attached to a file (usually zip files) and when you extract and/or run the extracted files, you get the virus. As long as you have a virus scanner and are very careful what you download, you should be ok.

Sinc evirus is mostly less than 1 MB, donot download anyfiles less than 1 MB from limewire. Also, try previewing the file. If no preview is possible, then it cud be a virus.

the Norton system is a good system but try an ad ware program do detect tracer keys and such. That's a way someone can access the info on your computer, find the info they need an lay a few undesirables like worms. Which can spread to anyone in your address book. not nice...
