What they confessed to is not any different than a priest confess to being gay.
This is not the way of the Catholic faith.
This has nothing to do with them; it has everything to do with the beliefs of the Catholic Church and they broke the rules.

I accept that the church has it's rules and that if someone who knew the rules going in violated them, the church (or any org) is justified in tossing their butts out.
If she had been tossed out of a workplace or government job - in which the sexuality or verbosity of the employee is not relevent - she might have a case. Of course, many jobs require NDAs and security clearances and talking alone is reason enough to toss you. Many employers would also object to people spending time having sex when they should be working - lesbian or not.
The best approach is to say to the church: "You want tax exemptions, but your laws are like that of a private club. Sorry, can't have it both ways."

Should they have been thrown out? Yes, because they broke TWO major vows of their order. Every member of those orders knows the rules, and just like any other job, if you can't abide, you get fired. As for the excommunication, it's harsh, but does follow the letter of Catholic Doctrine. I think it's insane that they feel they can sue the Catholic Church for following it's own doctrine! You choose your religion, and if you cannot follow the rules, either by choice, or by nature, then pick a different one. Don't expect a religion to flex for you....

Sounds just like the Church.......cant forgive a woman for having a lesbian affair, but we will just sweep those stories of men buggering little boys under the rug, and give the priest a transfer to another diocese.....
What I dont understand is why these nuns would want any part of an organization that condemns them.....

Personally, I think it is tragic that promises or vows have no meaning in this country anymore. Contracts are worthless. There is always a loophole. Promises are meaningless. Those women have the right to their sexual preference. But they made vows, to the church and to God Almighty. If they chose their lesbian lifestyle over their promise to God, then that is for them to live with. But to sue the church for being ousted is disgraceful. My personal belief is that the ACLU is one of the most detrimental organizations in our nation. (And I am allowed my opinion, so keep the hate emails to yourselves, please.) If they should win this case, I think it will be the end of what little integrity remains in our nation's judicial system.

I think these nuns should sue the church and get some kind of compensation. Compared to some of the things that have been going on in the churches in recent years what this woman has done shouldn't be treated as a crime. She didn't harm anyone and they were all consenting adults.

They broke their vows, they were ousted, as they knew they would be, otherwise what is the point of taking vows. Now they want to sue???? Perleeeeease, these people, they only want publicity and all of us without a life is right there for them.
I think the convent should sue them!!

It amazes me that two women are kicked out for having concentual sex but if a priest abuses and sexually molests a child it's covered up.
Not to offend anyone but both the priests and the nuns took vows of celibacy so they should both be kicked out. I am not a catholic and believe that priests and nuns should be able to marry, however, that is not the case at this point and they broke the rules.
I couldn't find this book anywhere! Are you sure it exists?

If you join a Nunnery you join knowing and accepting vows to remain pure and righteous. I don't have anything against any person but the act of homosexuality is wrong (see Romans1).
These women vowed to be a light and represent Jesus Christ with their righteousness. When they broke the vows they took they forfeited the right to be there; therefore they have no case.

I agree with everyone else. What about forgiveness and repenting for your sins and all that other stuff the Bible teaches us. Why didn't they just cover it up and let it go like they did for all those child molesting priests. Those nuns were not hurting innocent children by their actions, so go figure!
