The system idle process is exactly that. This means that 99%, (or what ever percentage figure it displays) of the system is not being used at the time. You do not need to fix this! You may be experiencing what we often refer to as "Memory Hooks" The system assigns resources to various applications. When the application is through with the resources, it is supposed to release all the resources it was using. Unfortunately, it has been a habit with MS products in the past and present to not release all of the system resources it used during a specific process. How do you release these resources and free them back up? Simple log off and log back on. You will notice this more if you tend to leave your PC on, or in hibernation mode rather than turning it off when you are done. Also, you can go to a DOS window and type "chkdsk /f" This is the checkdisk command with the /f switch to tell it to fix any errors it finds. It will tell you it can't run while windows is operating and ask if you would like to run chkdsk the next time you restart the PC? type yes and then exit the dos window and restart your PC. Chkdsk will run automatically when you reboot and then restart your PC automatically when finished. It will also report any/all repairs made by chkdsk. Hope this helps!

The problem here is not the system idle process although many people seem to think so when they see a 90%+ CPU 'action'.

Most likely this is caused by applications taking up most or all of the memory which forces Windows to slow down to a snail pace or even stop responding completely. Some applications are designed to try to take up as much physical memory as possible which cause this problem.

What you should do is install (and run in the background) a good memory optimization software. I highly recommend FREE RAM XP Pro which is a free little program but extremely powerful. I think this will solve the 'freezing' problem all together and your PC will run like a breeze regardless of the number of applications you are running.

System Idle Process is exactly that, your computer's idle process. It is fine to have it at 99%...that just means your computer is 99-100% idle (not processing anything). If you want to check for spyware use the following:

Spyware Tools:
http://www.lavasoft.nu/software/adaware/
http://www.safer-networking.org
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsdefender
http://www.merijn.org/programs.php

You should also check your available physical RAM in Task Manager-->Performance tab. If it is below like 50000, you should get more. Also check your free space on your hard drive.

LOL, that's pretty funny. You're probably just joking, but in case this is a real question:

That means your processor is 99% idle (not doing anything). That's good. If the idle process was always around 1%, that would mean that your processor was constantly working, which is usually the sign of some virus or spyware.

this is the amount of CPU use when your computer is idle if you use your mouse the value in the CPU usage box will change from 0% to about 2% because the CPU is not idle it is tracking your mouse movement if you could shut down system idle the computer would shut down

Thats there to tell you (99%) that your system isn't doing much, its safe, its not a virus! Everybody has that in their task manager.

you might have to redo your computer or get a new hard drive. back everything up (all your documents- pictures, work, etc, that you want to keep) on a flash drive or cds. then take it to best buy or call the geek squad. they get the job done.
