French wines are very good with each region being uniquely different.

Vouvrey is from Loire Valley, which is due west of Paris. It was referred to the Valley of Kings since so many castles were built by French kings over the centuries.

Vouvrey is made from Chenin Blanc grapes, which is a pale green "white" varietal. The wines have a crisp acidity; they are light, with a grassy finish. These wines are very popular during the hot summer months because they are refreshing. Vouvrey pairs well with fresh tomato dishes, shellfish, and mild goat cheese.

First of all, it's "Vouvray," not "Vouvrey."
Secondly, odu 83 must have been imbibing too much of it when he received impression that the part of the central Loire Valley where it is made is due west of Paris. It is actually due south. Also, it is made not from sauvignon blanc, rather it is made from the chenin blanc (Loire wines made from sauvignon blanc, such as Sancerre and Blanc Fume de Pouilly, come from upper Loire, about 150km away). Vouvray has an interesting history in many English-speaking countries, including the U.K. and North America. Made either dry or slightly sweet, and always fruity, Vouvray was one of the most popular of French wines 40 years ago (resulting, among other things, in large plantings in California as winemakers there tried to emulate it). Then it (and CA chenin blanc) became passe in the wine snobbery favoring chardonnay and later some other varietal and/or geographic appellations of the world. Recently there has begun a bit of a comeback, as Vouvray (and other Loire chenin blanc appellations, and the downstream Muscadet, made from a different grape and similarly a victim of popularity gone bust) have been cited by many wine writers and critics as some of the best white wine values in the marketplace.
