Because the narcissistic side of us wants to shout to the world that "I am right and you all are wrong!" and sense there really is no way to prove who is right and who is wrong, it is free game for egos to run loose like children at a day camp with no supervision.

Sounds like a question that's asked out of anger... Not sure if you're speaking from a personal experience with your church, making a comment based on what you see in the media, or from hearing conversations with others.

I'm also not sure exactly what you intend about competative or imposed. I could see some rituals being 'imposing' since they can be very choreographed and scripted.

Try not to be too critical of religion. I know it can be used inproperly, but it can also be used very well. Try to find the good in it for you. If you can't, leave it for a while. It'll still be there if you change your mind.

Religion is basically what you believe. No one likes to be wrong, so you defend your beliefs. To support a different religion would be supporting something you don't believe. To believe in a religion, you must have faith. Faith is believing in something you cannot prove or fully understand.

If you shop around for a religion that fits your natural beliefs or lifestyle, do you really have the faith in that religion?

Unfortunately too many people take advantage of people's faith.

Crusades: prestige, power, wealth
Inquisition: control, power
TV Evangelists: wealth
Politicians: power

God gave you Free Will. You may choose as you want. However, like choosing Ice Cream and Chocolate for dinner every night, (which sounds kinda good) your choice may have consequences. Its like that in a lot of things though.

Because too many people have too many ideas about how religion should be seen. Look how many denominations there are and look at the reasons why. Example, People who dropped out of Church of Christ and became Disciples of Christ because of musical instruments. A baptist stops being a baptist because he/she doesn't believe in voting a member into a congregation. Some denominations think theirs is the only denomination that will get to go to Heaven. Think about the Crusades. Done for the wrong reason.
That's the only way I know to answer this.

I don't think it's competitive nor is it imposed. I'm a Christian and the way I see it is you can believe in God or not. God gave us all free will and He gave us the power to make a choice. It's up to us whether or not choose Him and receive his Grace.

Only to those who insist on putting other religions down. Which, by the way, is against the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Because people try to push their belief's on others. They tend to argue and hate each other because they bash their beliefs on one another. I think that's really wrong. As a christian that I am i believe that all you can do is share what you believe in, agree to disagree and move on.

Because everyone wants you to believe in their point of view. These days everybody thinks they are right and they think everybody else is wrong. The funny thing about it all is they are all preaching the same thing.

Please describe how it is imposed. I just never feel imposed upon by anyone's religion. No one knocked on my door with a gun and said, "You will practice this."
