Any child's language aged 2-3 is limited so don't worry about not speaking spanish. Lots of eye contact, smiles and repitition and positive reactions when they repeat correctly, as many single words as poss to begin with and basic things such as please and thank you will be a good start. Facial expression can go a long in letting them know good, bad, right, wrong, etc. so they don't have to understand every single word form the start.

Teach by example too - not just vebal, eg., if you want them to learn the word teddy then let them see you hide it under a tub then say 'where is teddy? Oh! Here is teddy!' then 'can.....find teddy?' and so on. If you keep saying teddy when holding teddy then it soon clicks into place for them. kids love to play and if their games can involve lots of fun repitition and encouragement then they will soon develop a wide and varied vocab and pick up far more than you are actually trying to teach them. Every child starts with one or two word phrases so be encouraged if that is all they can do to begin with!

Stickers for a visual praise or a chart where a fave charater can be seen creeping up towards their name, or something like that, when they learn new things can fairly encourage their confidence and spur them on to try new things.

Every child loves music! Ones like 'old macdonald' where you can get out toy animals as a visual aid at the right point will farily help the info stick in. Once they are familiar with a tune then learn to pause at key words - you will be surprised how quickly words are learnt and the children are able to fill in the gaps.

As for those that have brought you up on your English , well, maybe there were mistakes but then you are not being asked to teach the written language. How many 2 years go to nursery to do that, regardless of their language?? You obviously had an interview so you got the job on your own merit and you are obviously thought worthy of the job.

Good luck and enjoy!

I would advise that you put some sort of topic in your question, that way you might get more people who are interested in teaching languages.

Today is probably not the day to worry about your new job, either worry about it when you apply or in a few months if you can't cope. You got the job and i assume the school knew your level of Spanish....so just go and be confident, kids will spot a kink in your armour if you are not.

It'll be a blast and you'll love it i bet.

Good Luck !

The Nursery master wants you to speak only English with them, that's good for the children, you don't have to speak Spanish, even if you can.

Speaking only English with the kids will make them knowing the language fast.

Use your body language, and paintings, they will understand you.

You don't have to worry at all if you are confident with your English language, and able to spend time with kids.

Good Luck.

I'd spend the weekend learning some very basic Spanish. That way if the kids are struggling at least you'll know.

I had a similar Job teaching Italian 5 yr olds, My Italian was terrible when I started but the kids will teach you. It can be difficult but your probably best not understanding what they're saying as kids of that age talk a lot of crap.

Just be calm and remember kids are kids in any culture or language. Try to relate to them and listen carefully so u can understand if they need anything. See this as an opotunity to learn as well as teach.

You're a teacher...for a teacher to have bad spelling is a rather poor commentary on society madam......

If they only want you to talk in English what's the problem?

yes. what you have to do is take it nice and slowly and enjoy it, listen to the kids listen to what they say and try to pick up a few words of Spanish and relate them to the english words...promise the parents will love you for it.

and sing lots of simple english songs....in fact if you contact me i can record some for you i am a teacher of 3 - 11 year olds!

:-)

smile smile smile!

go for it!

just be yourself. they will take to you because they want to know your language. and hey, theyre only 2-3 so i dont think theyre gonna give ya any hassle!! ive had foreigners in my work place who havent known much English and it is of great benefit of them to be around those that naturally speak it. just talk how ya normally would around that age group as if they were English ( dont try to be extra simple)
