The last great towering Democrats went the way of FDR, Jack and Bobby Kennedy. Now all they have 'left' (no pun intended) are Howard and Ted...not very inspiring.
No policies, no plans, no specifics, just Liberal Far Left Wing ACLU secular ideology and Blind Bush Bashing and Blame America First rants 24-7!
Where has all the brilliance of the Democrats gone too...many think JFK & RFK took it with them..because, quite frankly, what is left is shameful...Howard and Ted..ugh
$90,000 stashed away in the good Democratic Congressman's
Freezer, men like Michael Moore portraying himself as a poor Working Stiff when he lives in a 3.5 million dollar mansion and the other great spokesperson for the DNC, Howard Dean!
What ever happened to the olde Democratic Knights of Camelot...
now it's Ted Kennedy and a dementia ridden Jimmy Carter.

Could it be that the Democrats in office simply reflect the times instead of remaining steadfast and true to the high standards of the Office they were elected to hold? ... "Sell-outs."

They were made invisible to some people who were brainwashed into believing they don't exist.

Salvatore, I think your impression of Democrats past is more nostalgia than fact. Our leaders get scrutiny today that would have kep Jack Kennedy out of public office as a womanizer. FDRs deals with the Soviets would never pass muster today. In fact Pearl Harbor would have exposed him to the same kind of problems Bush is now having. I grew up in Illinois, which has been the capital of Democratic corruption since before WWII.
I don't think there's been a lot of degeneration. LBJ was on the KBR payroll long before Dick Cheney. Jack Kennedy was philandering with Marilyn Monroe long before Bill Clinton got oral from Monica. In fact, the corruption scandals have been driving both parties to distraction.
I only became a Democrat after this president invaded Iraq. I find myself nostalgic for Republicans alike Everett Dirksen, who had more to do with the Civil Rights act getting passed than anyone. I'm nostalgic for Nelson Rockefeller, who like Bush had a learning disability, but unlike Bush was a liberal Republican who wanted to help out working men and women. I miss Chuck Percy, who was the first senator to stand up to the Israel lobby, even though it cost him his senate seat.
I actually think both Republicans and Democrats have some smart and capable people that I respect. John Murtha, Chuck Hagel, Eliot Spitzer, John Edwards, Tom Ridge, even Al Gore is beginning to get my respect. Both parties also have a lot of shameless, amoral and self-serving triangulators that I wouldn't trust to babysit my cat's litterbox. I like Howard Dean a lot, mostly because the DLC variety sell-outs hate him. He's a progressive, and I've alway liked progressives of either party. He's also a loud-mouth loose cannon, but the Dems needed one.
Having said all of that, there is an utter absence on both side os anyone that displays the maturity, charisma and sense of duty to the nation that I think was displayed by FDR, Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy. And sadly I see no one on the horizon. I'm not sure our systems will ever allow such men access to the highest office ever again.

I agree, it seems the only things of importance to them are money, power, and the Democratic party, Not what's best for our country and our people. And along with the media being so one sided Democrat, they are succeeding in running this country into the ground while blaming it all on the Republicans. Now before anyone points their finger at Bush, I would like to point out that Bush, although claiming to be Republican, has aligned himself with the Democrats on most issues and is an embarrassment to the Republican party. I would also like to point out that I belong to neither party but am an independent free thinker and therefore not swayed by party affiliation

The Republicans won enough elections that the Democrats decided "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em". Now the only difference between the parties is which corporations they support and their stand on wedge issues they will do nothing about.
Low moral state? Do you really want the government trying to decide moral issues for you? With the way everything else is handled, I really wish they'd quit trying. If someone wants to consider themselves moral, they should have higher standards than what is legal or illegal.

You know, you're an example of why there are such wide divisions between parties. Why is it we think all the problems lie with the OTHER guy? Oh, we're fine - it's, it's THEM over there! THEY'RE the problem!
So much party bashing. Is it THAT difficult to respect our different political beliefs and just work together for the common good? If your post is any example - apparently it is.

The Republicans have managed to parlay low morals and intelligence into 8 years in the White House. You can't blame the Dems for trying to beat them at their own game, can you?
