I am shocked about the nonsense people answer here: It is easy to answer:
The distance is about 150 km, the km is 5 baht, so it will be about 800 Baht the regular price. (= about 20 US Dollar) ... the problem is, if you take it straight from the airport, you won't get that price, because they try to rip you off.
My tip:
You go by bus No 1 downtown (that bis is right in front of the arrivals' exit), and then you negotiate with a cab driver you stopped there on the street. Then you might get it for maybe 600 or 700 Baht.
No matter what you do: that trip should be less than 1000 Baht in any case. Any higher is a try to rip you off.

One more, when the new airport is opening, it will get cheaper, because the distance then is 20 km shorter ... not as the other user said, it would be more expensive, that's a blank lie.
But again, go away from the airport first and stop a cab on a usual street. Do not try to get to Patthaya straight from the airport, that will become too expensive.

About 40 to 50 dollars. If you go outside the airport in front of arrivals there is a taxi stand where the bus for 100 baht leaves for 3 areas of Bangkok. If you are patient there are usually a couple other punters looking to share a cab to Pattaya. Cost you about $15
Of the 3 buses that go into Bangkok. A1, A2, A3. The A3 bus will take you down Sukhumvit Rd. to the eastern bus terminal and for about $6 dollars a bus ticket for Pattaya

Thailand is the only country where a cab ride like that is still afforable. If they the driver goes by meter you would be looking at around 60.00 or so US.. not sure what currency you are on. However , Thais will always offer you a deal, so if you told him 40 to 50 in advance he would probably do it. Often times hotels in Bangkok can arrange for it but it would probably cost more. I think the busses are the cheapest way, its is only about 10.00 or so US. Takes longer and not as comfortable. I have done it both ways, and if I ever do it again I will arrange for a cab to and pay the 40 dollars. Good luck.. be careful with that type of a trip though. Alot of people looking to rip you off.

It will be much too expensive. Best to go by bus. There is aircon service from Ekamai. What you need is take a cab there instead and hop onto a bus to Pattaya. Cab ride to Ekamai is about 250-300bahts and the bus ride will be about 100baht. Save you at least a 1000baht plus in fare. You can enjoy the sight from a higher vantage point too. Enjoy the ride.

It's 1200 Baht. Just make sure you get the taxi from the taxi stand outside the airport terminal, not one of the limousine services offered inside which are a lot more expensive.

If you are coming to BKK after 28th September when the new Bangkok Airport opens, it may well be more expensive, but probably no more than 1800 Baht.

I guess you want a larger vehicle. There a scattering of regular price taxi that are also larger, about the size of the old station wagon. You can book a larger vehicle from a desk inside the airport... from a standard Benz sedan to a 15 passenger van. Anything larger would need advance planning and booking. If you go out to the regular taxi line of waiting people, tell the dispatcher you want a large taxi and stand in line until you at the front and then stand there until a larger taxi comes in, about one in fifty that arrive. So you are in for some waiting in the heat with your luggage in line. But these square backed taxis cost same as the little ones. In all cases except a big truck, you can get what you want in or on the curb of the airport upon arrival.

You would have to negotiate this. It would be about 1,500 - 1,800B.

The bus fare is 180B each. See website below. The schedule from the airport is near the bottom.
