NO!!! Do not use bengay on the dog! not a good idea at all. first off it will irritate the skin and your dog would be in more pain that way then she is now! secondly as another person said dogs lick themselves! and if you haven't noticed if their is something strange on them they will lick even more. if your dog digested that it could kill her or make her so sick that she would wind up at the vet clinic for a few day stay! so instead to try to help you dog coupe with the pain. try placing a heating pad under your dogs bed or her favorite blanket. or apply a "hot" (worm) pack to her joints that seem to be bothering her. Heat does wonders on helping anything with arthritis. and yes you can use baby aspirin on dog's. but you should call your vet and ask for the right dosage.
Good luck with your dog. and I hope some of this will help her feel a little more relaxed.

I wouldn't use anything like Bengay on my dogs. It's very strong and may irritate your dog. My senior dog gets glucosamine, and has been helping a lot, and you can buy in in any store very cheaply. Go back to your vet, and tell him that the medication is not working, and he may give you something else.

No!!! But you can give her a plain old aspirin, preferably buffered to protect her stomach. If she's a small dog use a low dose aspirin. If she's medium size use the regular strenght but cut it in half. If she's large then use a whole one. Give it to her in peanut butter. It will make it almost impossible for her to spit it out. I have talked to several vets over the years and they all say that aspirin is OK but not tylenol or motrin or any substitutes.

I wouldn't use it because as you know, a dog does lick itself. Then in addition to your dog being stiff from arthritis you will have poisoned it.
Make sure your dog has a nice warm area to sleep in or just sit. Heat does wonders for arthritis.

I would not try bengay on your dog, it could cause hair loss or other other medical problems!
I would give her warm bath soaks, not too hot though. Try to keep her warm as we all know cold hurts arthritis. They also make over the counter dog products, try looking at petsmart for any arthritis products made for dogs.
Hope your baby feels better.

Have you tried using an electric blanket or putting one of those electric seat warmers in the dog's bed? The heat may help to dull the pain.

Why not try a 2nd opinion? I love my vet. But he tends to be very agressive with his solutions. For example, he recommended a very complicated surgery, whereas meds were recommended by another vet. Also, did you ask your vet about the bengay. I dont think I'd try anything before consulting with a vet.

Ask your doctor about cosequin or adequin. These two kept my arthritic doberman going until she was twelve.
