The bathroom is really small - only room for a sink, toilet and bath with shower over it (altough, to maximise space, we plan to get rid of the bath and just have a shower)

Thanks guys for your answers so far - all really, really good. We prob won't do the work ourselves (as I am truly bad at that sort of thing!), and it's a REALLY old bathroom, so worried about damaging something major!! So, would look at costs for a plumber to fit and tile as well, if that adds extra info to help with cost estimations? We'd look at around £1,500 for actual materials

Ok this question I know. I redone my bathroom myself. All the work and planning for under $150 Yes, $150 can you believe that!?! What i did to the walls was paint the top half and wallpaper the bottom half. I painted the sink cabinet and bought new handles for the cabinet. I got a cabinet that goes over and around the toilet for $2 at a yardsale and repainted it. Put new flooring down from the discount bin at the local carpet store. I also got new shower curtains and a couple pictures to seal the deal. I must say the bathroom looks 150% better than it did before.

I'm no expert but having just a shower puts off potential buyers so if you plan to sell your house soon, have a bath.
you can get a toilet, sink and bath for about £200. Shower cublicals cost about £200 on their own. Then there's all the taps which will cost at least £100 if you have taps for your shower. then there's tiling. this depends on how much you have to tile and the quality of the tiles you want to use so it's hard to say. Do you need flooring, plumbing work, light fitting, extrator fan etc?

It depends on how much you want to do. You can put $100 - $200 into paint, towels, shower curtain, curtains, pictures/decorations and spruce it up nicely. The best way to figure out how much it will cost is figure out what you want to do, and go to your hardware store to look at prices.
We hope to do our tiny bathroom early next year and looking at spending $1000 or less. We have a bathroom where you can sit on the toilet, put your feet on the bathtub and wash your hands all at the same time -- it's LITTLE. We'll be stripping the tile from the walls, re tiling (we were lucky enough to get the tile for free), new sink & base, mirror, and lights.

It really depends on what yoyu are going to do to it. A shower is going to run in the neighborhood of 300 to 500 and then you ahve the plumber to re do the piping for the shower that probably another 200 to 300. The floor are you going to use cermaic or vinyl or carpet plan on another 200 to 300. Any new lighting that is another 300 to 500 with electrican costs. It adds up quick. I would say if you do some of the worjk your self you can say about 500.00 otherwise I would plan on at leat 2000.00. Baths and kitchens are the most expenseive remodeling projects in your home.

The best thing you can do is start going to remodelers and getting quotes, even if you plan on doing some or most of the work yourselves or wont be starting this project for awhile. Cost will vary a lot depending on whose doing the labor, how much demoliton has to be done, and what materials you're using (flooring, countertops, etc.). As with any project, you can go as cheap or as expensive as you want. I'd say budget for at least $2500.

We redid two bathrooms recently - the one with the shower ran about $9000 (included shower and new tile, toilet, new vanity, medicine cabinet with mirror, facets, sink, lights, tile floor and accessories).
The other bathroom ran about $11000 - with a tub and shower over it (included new tub and facet set, tub surround is ceramic, new tile floor, vanity, mirror, sink and facets, lighting, and accessories.
My girlfriend redid her bath like one above, but used a tub surround system and it ran $7500.
Another friend redid hers with a whirlpool bath instead of a shower. This required repiping for the tub drain was not it right place and pipes for water had to be moved. Other than that similar to above, ran $13,500.
I just looked at some of the answers above. All of us used a professional remodeling service. If you do it yourself, I'm sure it is cheaper.
I hope this helps.

I had the same problem I can show pistures too.
My partner and I went to plumb centre. Completely gutted the bathroom. Put in a tower shower, new toilet tiled the whole room and went to ikea to get a nice cabinet thing for toiletries and washing etc.
To do it this way cost us less than £1000.
The tower shower we got we saw in homebase for £350 and 6 week wait
Plumb Centre was £180 and got it next day! for the exact same one

Reckon if you do the work yourself you'll get it done for £500 minimum. I'm just doing mine, spending about a grand but don't need new shower. However, am getting walls re-plastered too thats the only outside work i'm paying for but the very cheapest stuff isn't so good.
