The Hebrew and Greek words from which "hell" is derived are sheol and hades, and they both signify the place where the dead, good and bad, are: The common grave of mankind. This is even acknowledged in the King James Bible that has a reference column. At Psalm 55:15 and Revelation 20:13, 14 where it says "hell" in the margin it says "Or, the grave." All those in hell will be resurrected. (John 5:28, 29; Acts 24:15; Revelation 20:13)

Another word, the one from which the idea of a fiery hell is derived, is the Greek word gehenna, which refers to the Valley of the sons of Hinnom. It is a garbage dump where all worthless things are totally burned up. Those who have no hope of a resurrection are said to go there. It means eternal destruction, not torture.

These, as well as hell and death, are to be destroyed in Gehenna, also known as "the lake of fire." -- Revelation 20:14, 15. Satan and his demons are to be destroyed by being cast into this lake of fire, according to Revelation 20:10.

How do we know it means destruction, and not eternal torture?
Because among other things, hell, which is a place of the dead, and death, which is a condition, are to be cast into this lake. How can a place or a condition be tortured forever?

Furthermore, death as we have seen is to be thrown into the lake of fire. At 1 Corinthians 15:26, we read that death is to be destroyed, and since it cast into the lake of fire, we can conclude that this lake is the equivelant of destruction.

Yes, if I die before Jesus rides against his enemies, I will go to hell.

That is where Jesus went while he was dead (See Psalm 16:10 and Acts 2:31 in the King James Version)

Hell is the place where all dead people go. There will be a resurrection from hell and then those people will be judged, after which death and hell will be thrown into the lake of fire (destroyed) - See Revelation 20:13,14 (again see the King James Version)

As sure as the sun will shine there is a Hell, and best of all there is HEAVEN
I sure hope I don't go to Hell when I die because it will be worse than the Hell we are living in now.

Hell is not a real place, but it does exist. Hell is a state of being of the soul that is totally separated from teh love of God.

John Paul Ii gave a very good address on teh existence and nature of Heaven, Hell, and Purgatory. You can read it at http://www.ewtn.com/library/PAPALDOC/JP2HEAVN.HTM

At the present time, I do not think I will go there when I die, but then again, my life's journey is not yet complete and I could concevably reject God's saving grace.

Yes Hell is a real place. But I know that I will not go there when I die because I have been saved, baptized and filled with the Holy Ghost. I believe in the Bible and that Jesus died for my sins. I am grateful for that because I have done enough things in my life to deserve to go to hell.

Will you go there? You know it is up to you whether you go there or not, and it is not hard to choose not to.
