I can't believe I am saying this since I am terrified of flying. But flying in the night is no more hazardest than flying during the day time. Pilots just put the plane on Autopilot anyway so it is not a matter of them falling asleep or keeping awake. The only thing I would be concerned about flying is Terriorist which is not likely anymore with all the security measures enforced. Go fly take your trip and have fun!

There are no statistics that night flying is any more hazardous than daylight. Pilots are trained (when talking about commercial carriers) to use instrument flying. As another person said, nearly the entire flight is conducted with the auto-pilot engaged. Each aircraft is fitted with a TCAS (Traffic Collision Avoidance System) that constantly seeks out other aircraft in the airspace around the aircraft. If a collision is imminent, the avoidance system tells the pilot to pull up or down. If the opposing aircraft is commercial, and it is also fitted with a TCAS system, that one will instruct the pilot to direct his aircraft in the opposite direction.

This system has failed, a Russian airliner and a DHL cargo aircraft collided in mid air over Germany a couple of years ago.

As for the pilot's fatigue, pilots are mandated to have a certain number of hours of "crew rest" prior to commencing each shift. On long international flights, there are relief pilots aboard and there is a crew rest bunk bed on the aircraft.

The chances of you plane crashing at night are no more than they would be during the day. Don't believe what the first respondent said about it being 800% more likely to crash at night. The pilots are just as likely to be asleep during the day.

In fact the only reason they have pilots these days at all is to keep the passengers from freaking out. The planes are all flown by smoke and mirrors.

First of all it's not driving, it's flying. Second of all, pilots should have a good instrument rating and count on his instruments, GPS, flight display, radar, and all that rather than his visibility, and they use the auto pilot for most of the flight. Also, in long flights, when the pilot gets tired, a relief pilot takes over. As for landing, the pilot would be able to clearly see threshhold, and runway lights, and the plane has strobe lights, nav lights, and landing lights so the plane can be seen.

No, it is definately is as safe as driving in the daytime because the pilots wont get tired becuz they're the ones who have nite time shift and theres others that have daytime. The plane also obviously has lights like a car so they can see.
It is not too often that planes crash if you are talking about a commercial airliner.
But privately owned planes crash quiet a bit - due to lack of maintenance or inexperience of the pilot (human error).

It's actually the same or less than day travel, since there are fewer aircraft flying late at night. You have about a million times greater chance of getting in a car crash on the way to or from the airport than you have of the plane crashing. Why don't people whine and ask questions about car crashes instead?

Ah i'm an same way, i'm soo petrified of flying!! i'm getting soo worried and freak out before hand. truly, there is not any longer some thing to fret about. Its hypocritical for me to say that because i'm getting soo freaked out before flying, yet i took a instantly 12 hour flight from toronto to greece and that i replaced into wonderful.. (and that i took a cheap air line!) most of the nerves take position before you're even on the airplane. basically watch video clips and pay interest to music or take some gravol, or order some beverages! ha! i have been given this from yet another yahoo answer i talked about, and it replaced into from a authentic information superhighway website (i checked) Scheduled US airways Stats for 2006 25 injuries with 2 deadly injuries out of 11,2 hundred,000 flights. entire 50 fatalies twist of destiny fee in conserving with one hundred,000 is 0.223 or 0.018 for those with fatalies. maximum airplane injuries ensue with extremely small airplanes. the large airplanes are made to very last many many years and ought to take care of many harsh climates. The media basically over-does it even as there are airplane crashes. so that you will be ok! have a good vacation to france! oh and an extra effective ingredient! My aunt is a diplomat and has to fly places each and every of the time (russia, india, africa ect..) and she or he has been flying on account that she replaced into in her 20's and she or he's now in her 50's.. and her airplane has even been struck with lightening, and she or he hasn't ever experienced an airplane crash!!

Definitely worse than during the day, but don't let that bother you. Commercial aircraft fly on instruments all the time, and you don't have to be able to see a thing to operate the aircraft except to spot the runway just before landing (and, maybe, not even that).

Someone said why don't people complain about car accidents instead of airplane accidents. First of all, because passengers and drivers of cars feel much more control on the road than in an airplane. Second, your chances of dying in an airplane crash are much, much higher than dying in a car accident (if you were given the choice between getting in an airplane crash or a car accident, and not given any other details, which would you choose? I bet most people would choose car accident).

the chances is the same as daytime flight because the flight pilot not using their bare eye to see they equip with radar, altitude meter and other digital meter which tell every thing unless the pilot take it so-so
