Go to My Q&A.
Go to Edit My Info.
Then where it says Picture . . .
Check the box that says Use My Yahoo! Avatar.
Then at the bottom click Preview and then Ok.

You need to set it as your Yahoo Answers picture. To do that, click on your picture in the upper-left near where it says your points and level, click 'edit my info' and then choose your avatar.
Personally, though, I think the avatars are too cartoony and you should use a picture instead.
