I have family there i visit a lot. It's pretty hot in the summer cool in the winter. The town was known as a hick town for some time since it was so isolated. Really only about hour and 15 from LA though. There's a lot more to do recently since the population in the last few years has jumped dramatically with all the commuters from LA moving out farther to find cheaper housing.
The crime rate there has also gone up quite a bit with the population boost. You'll find that it's sort of a wide mix, you have people who have just moved there from the cities and people who are pretty country that have lived there their entire lives. It's interesting, i've always had fun there with friends that still live there.

Very Hot , with little do. Its kind of a dust bowl in the summer also. They can go the entire summer with no rain and above 90 everyday. The winter are pleasant though. Stays mild, with alot of nice days and decent amount rain to get things more green.
There is little do as far fun also. Lucikly, you are close enough to drive to many points of interest. Las Vegas, Los Angeles, ect ect are all within a day trip of you. So i guess its not all that bad if you look at it that way. Also the cost of living is very low compared to other major cities in California

hot, and in the middle of the desert. i used to live about an hour from there in ridgecrest on the china lake naval base. the heat is dry, and its nice for pets (no fleas, no heartworms).

if you want to work on a farm its ok.
there are some good things about this place, but they are the same ones any city has..
as for the bad....HOT...Isolated...lots of low lifes...
