Having had many birds in my time, I would have to advise you to get your bird to a vet and soon. This is usually a sign of sickness in a bird, and they puff up their feathers to stay warm and to conserve heat.

While it may be nothing, it could be a sign of a serious illness, and only a good avian vet can diagnose and treat her.

I have budgies and one of them started doing that so I checked at the Pet store which is one that they seem to know a lot about them. They asked if it was eating and drinking fluids the same and to check the stools to see if was somewhat normal and I could say Yes to all of them ( although -the stool was just a bit more less firm)

They recommended a Heat lamp because it may have just got got chilled. They always recommend a Avian Vet - just in case- but in my case because my budgies were eating and drinking well and the stool was not too different they said probably that he got chilled and they puff up their bodies for a longer term like that as a symptom. But they did emphasize -only if it didn t have any other symptoms !!!!! and that you should see some change by the evening or the next morning. I chose a bigger lamp then I actually needed because I would have more leeway in intensity of the bulb and my son liked the looks of it better-he wanted to use it in his room when I didn t need it anymore. (You can use a normal bulb in it for that) The sz of your bird and cage would determine the sz you would get. They (the people in the Bird area) should be able to instruct you on what sz and intensity of bulb. They had some over their larger birds like parrots etc... And I took one with less wattage-because budgies are so much smaller. They are in the section for Lizards. They have a choice of different bulbs with different heat outputs- night times bulbs also- It still sends off the heat but isn t bright. They instructed me to direct it toward only half a cage so that the Bird could choose to move away from it if it was too warm. It is on a clamp to attack it to something near the cage. I was instructed not to put it right up against the metal of the cage because if the bird touched the metal it would burn it.

Usually, when the bird puffs out the feathers, it means they are ill.

Take her to the vet, usually there is something they can put in their water (like an antibiotic) or droplets to give your bird.

Don't wait, it's a sign of sickness.

BIrds are very good at hiding illness, but this is one pretty good sign that your bird is not well. Go to an AVIAN vet ASAP. Like, now.

Bring the dirty cage papers with you incease the vet wants to see. Every time I took a bird to the vet they wanted to know how many times a day they pooped.

Know what you are feeding and wether your bird is eating or drinking.

Good luck

birds puff up when they're cold or have a cold..is the room temp cool? it might feel good to you but will be cold for the bird....is the cage in a draft or near the air duct of the ac? move it and try to cover it with a lite cloth or towel but only around three sides leaving the front side open for lite as birds won't eat in the dark....

No she's not ok. Your bird is showing signs of sickness. Birds hide their illness until its advanced. Usually once the owner realises or notices signs of sickness the bird is very ill. See a vet immediately.Keep your bird warm and quiet. I hope all goes well.

Probably sick. That's the first symptoms, puffing feathers. could she have swallowed something that she shouldn't have? Nasal discharge? irregular looking poop, very white? is her appetite abnormal? If any of these symptoms are present. I'd suggest a vet.

She's either sick or cold. Try warming up the room she's in. If that doesn't help in a few hours, call a vet.
