Why are some people obsessed with wearing designer labels?
It's a stupid question. It's there choice. It's who they are. It's what feel comfie to them.

The key phrase here is "some people". Some people become gothic because they feel left out by society. Some become gothic because they misinterpret goth as "evil" and they want people to see them as wicked. Some become gothic out of rebellion (it's what their parents don't want). Some do so to fit in with other friends. And some people just see the beauty in things and feel different because the rest of the world is superficial...their styles and mannerisms reflect the sadness they hold inside because others refuse to see the beauty in all things.

I think some become Goth because they think they are being different when really they are just conforming to yet another trend.
Some people just like to dress that way as a form of rebellion.
It's interesting that some people say it's because of a music genre. I have always liked strange and or non mainstream music, but never "dressed" that way. Why should music dictate how you dress and what "group" you belong to. When will kids ever get past that stage? Heck, even Adults do it. Generalize people.
Weird.
When's the last time you've seen a 50 year old goth person? Not too often.
Goths, Skaters, Punk, Emo....whatever people are sorted into, will all one day just be plain boring Adults.
LOL!!!

It's the same reason that some people are preppy, and some are country, and some are jocks. People are who they are and they tend to be with people who are like them. And as far as i being a phase that is where people are wrong. It will only be a phase for those who do not know who they are. Don't be afraid of any one who is Gothic, they are the nicest people I have ever known.

I think it's because it's different! I've always like it. And no it won't go away anytime soon. Gothics have their own hangouts, their own clicks, space, music. And to be quite honest, although I'm way pass that as far as age, I use to run into them from time to time and some of the teenagers that are into Goth are quite respectful. So I say don't knock it if you haven't tried it!

some people become gothic because it is the lifestyle that best fits their personality and where they feel they fit in society.... However, I have met alot of people who do it because they find it to be risque or rebellious..... sometimes even cool.... but hey to each his own right....

My sister used to dress a little gothic, not really on purpose, she just really liked black.
I didn't really mind, she looked good in it, but when I'd go shopping with her, I'd encourage her to get something a little more colorful.

This is what I think : for attention, to rebel mostly against parents and sometimes to be a part of something that is seemingly mysterious/sinister. Luckily most people grow out of it ..
