Do I need a flea and tick medicine? I live in a city.

Yes, you need it even in the city. Your dog can pick up fleas from anywhere an infested dogs (or cat or rat) goes. One pregnant flea is all it takes to take over your dog and your home.

And just because YOU don't see the fleas doesn't mean he doesn't have them. Once I was not being attentive and let my dog's frontline lapse. I had no idea how heavily she was infested until I found her sleeping int he bathroom to get away from them. I had NO IDEA and this dog slept in the bed with me. Just 'cause you don't notice doesn't mean they aren't there.

Frontline Plus is best. Kills fleas and eggs if I recall correctly and lasts a whole month. Costs about $10 per month, but it is TOTALLY worth it. Much less expensive than trying to get rid of a flea infestation.

And if you get fleas, the next thing you'll get is tape worms. Fleas do NOT carry heartworms as someone said (mosquitos do) but they do carry tapeworm. Tapeworms are nasty looking and certainly not good for your pet. They won't kill your pet quickly, but a long infestation that goes untreated could be very bad.

In my area you can now buy Frontline at the pet store. Used to be you had to get it from the vet.

I suggest going to the vet and seeing what they say. You would really need a flea and tick medicine because they can be everywhere and since they always sniff around, they may get some from an area you don't know.

Fleas and ticks are everywhere. Do not use the Hartz products. Most people who have tried them, say they do not work, or do not last for a month. Check the net, Hartz products are causing a lot of adverse effect on dogs.
Stick with the ones that you can get at the vet or I recommend an otc called Bio Spot. It's less expensive and it works. I've used it for over 10 yrs on all of my dogs and on all the rescues that I have had.

Possibly. I have an indoor dog in Chicago. He is walked in parks and plays at the forest preserve. He has never had fleas. If your dog gets fleas it needs to be treated. Go to a vet for this. Much of the otc stuff does not work and can harm your dog. Fleas cause heartworms. Don't let fleas go untreated.

Stronghold or Advantage or Frontline. All are spot on treatments and cover both ticks and fleas, and also offer protection for worms and earmites. use once every 6 to 8 weeks.

I've found that the vet has a shot they can inject and it works wonders.

As for living in the city...won't you take your dog to the park or a dog park even? They'll find fleas there, jumping from one dog to the next or in the sand/soil.

I would use front line, you buy it from your vet and it runs about 11$ depending on the weight of your dog. It lasts for a month and is water proof.

Do not waste your money on the flea collars or drops you would buy at wal-mart. They don't work!
