I think most people on this site should first learn English before considering any other tongue. The standard of written English and spelling is almost too poor to believe. I think 80% of the people who ask questions are semi-illiterate morons. The other 20% are fine.
German is my second choice.

My mother-tongue is French and I'm proficient/fluent (don't know what category I fall into) in English.

In a couple of years, I'll start learning Spanish as I want to travel through South America. What's more, I like the language and studied it in high school, and I loved it (went to Spain once for 2 weeks and could talk with, and be understood by, the locals.)

One day (hmmm...), I want to learn Japanese. And maybe another language at the same time (because it will take me ages to learn Japanese!).

I currently speak English French, and some German and Spanish, and I have studied Russian and Latin. If I were to choose a new language to learn, I'd go for Italian.

I would prefer to speak my native language, Turkish again..I don't know its reason but it seems to me like I can't tell someone my ideas, problems with a different language..But my second choice is French.

Chinese (Mandarin) because it would give me access to the greatest number of people. 1080 million native speakers (1999). The site below gives the list by number of speakers; the top 10 are:

Chinese
Hindi
Spanish
English
Arabic
Portugese

MANDARIN (as spoken by the Chinese). Instantly I will be able to communicate with one-third of the world's population!
