You are what you are. If you want to live a good life, ALWAYS AND FOREVER TAKE YOUR MEDS!!!!! You may feel OK and think you don't need them - but it isn't so! This condition isn't one that comes and goes. If you are, you are. The most important thing is to keep on firm, level footing...the meds do that. I wish you all the best.

You got hit with it? No, you were diagnosed with it at 14. Schizophrenia shows up in the early years. In fact, if you have not been diagnosed with it, or know you have it and don't want the diagnosis, by the time you are 30, you most likely will not have it. It develops normally around the age of 6-15, so, you are not any more "deadly" than anyone else. I believe that you should seek some information. The more you know about your illness, the better equipped you are to deal with it. If you ignore it and deny that you have it, you may be doing yourself some harm. Seek out information and goto a support group that can help you understand what is happening. I wish you the best of luck, and hey, 2.5 million Americans have Schizophrenia, so, you aren't alone! Good luck.

people that have schizophrenia normally have an age range for their first psychotic break. This is 15-25 in men and 25-35 in women. I think the earlier you get treatment and an understanding of the disease the better off you will be regardless of the age you are when you have schizophrenia

The age of onset doesn't necessarily impact the severity of the illness. More important is how the person responds to medication, if they follow the treatment plan set for them (i.e. medication, therapy, etc), and the support system they have in place.
When unmedicated, some people with schizophrenia become suicidal, so it's certainly dangerous in that respect.

I wouldn't say its a deadly disease. If its treated properly you can live a quite normal life. However if left untreated it can have serious affects not just for you but other people around you. My eldest sister suffers with this disease it took years to finally diagnose her with it and believe me before treatment started it was like a living nightmare living with her. Just plod on with your treatment and you should be ok
