Every dietitian I've ever talked to said you should only lose 2-3 lbs. per week, otherwise, you are starving your body of the nutrients it needs and will only gain what weight you did lose back plus extra.

between 2-3 pounds a week, you don't want to exceed that much because your heart needs time to adjust to the weight loss

I've heard it's 2 pounds.
TV diets and all that crap say you can lose more, but it's all money related.

One to two pounds is average.... when you first start a diet you usually lose up to 10 pounds.... then your body adjusts to your new lifestyle and you loose from one to 4 pounds a week.
