I'm moving to Japan and I don't speak any Japanese. I need to learn the basics. Does any one know any good reference sites?

If you want to get started speaking right away, purchase the Pimsleur Cd course. It is the easiest and most effective audio course available.

In addition, here are a few sites that have free lessons...

You may want to buy a book for beginners (like "Learn Japanese in 3 months). I'm sure you can find one in second-hand bookshops, if it's too expensive (or on E-Bay). The reason why I'm telling you this is because they have a structure, and it might be easier to follow organized lessons. You don't really need to buy tapes/CDs if you find a website on the Internet that has prononciation and listening exercises (can I say that in English?). And it's good to have two different approaches and explanations as you may not understand what one of them.
