Last night I had that nightmare where you know its a dream but you cant wake up or scream or do anything.
3 times I woke up and realised I had not woken up at all and bad stuff was still happening after about a minute. I was pooing my pants for what seemed like most of the night.
How do you wake up in a nightmare (At one point I thought about jumping out of the flat window, but was too scared in case I really was awake or in case you really die -like in the matrix)

Any advice appreciated coz at 28 I'm too old for this!

Two links below that may help you out...

Personally, I have found that with practise, it is possible to wake yourself up during a bad dream - even better, I've even been able to change the direction of my dreams into something nice... doesn't always work (or I'd be having dreams about Angelina Jolie and tubs of fudge sauce every night)!!

That is a tuff one.

I did once by openning my eyes, it was a strain because I had my eyes open in the dream.

But once you realize, it is a dream, you also can realize that you can control it. You can grow to larger than any monster and step on it like a bug. You can be Superman or Superwoman. Nothing can harm you, not even kryptonite!

To help get rid of nightmares, eat properly, get regular rest and exercise. Stay aware from horror movies/shows books, etc.. Take vitamins, especially a mega b-complex vitamin.
Don't fall asleep watching TV either, and listen to only instrumental music when sleepy or going to sleep, no lyrics.

Oh ya, don't jump out the window, even if you are a superman or superwoman... Just in case you are sleepwalking. But you can step on the monster like it was a bug...

Oh ya, and wait till you wake up to use the restroom....

Yeah, i've got had vicious nightmares earlier the place I wakened too scared to even get off the mattress. I also have a tendency to combat lots in my targets, sometimes there is human beings yet no longer regularly. i used to have the potential to beat nightmares as they have been occurring. Like that factor I destroyed a set of zombies with an capability blast. Oh, factor of suggestion and it fairly is extreme. while you're being chased by ability of a serial killer in a dream or only one element, turn around and scare the hell out of it. I did that with a guy with a butcher knife that became chasing me. I jumped out of the closet i became hiding in and placed my palms up next to my ears, wiggled them and made extraordinary noises with my mouth. He screamed like a sprint woman and threw the knife at me and ran back downstairs. It became hilarious lol. The knife purely have been given me interior the arm while you're thinking, even nonetheless it did no longer harm.

I use to do that ALL the time. I'd fight as hard as I could to wake up & I'd finally wake up and get out of bed & look down and my feet weren't touching the floor & I'd realize I was still asleep.
I gave up aspartame (diet drinks) for health reasons & I haven't had one of those dreams since. Do you have a lot of sugar-free drinks & foods? That is the only thing I know of that was causing me to do that. Sorry if this doesn't help.
Hope you can get them to stop because I know how you feel. :-)

If you know you're dreamimg, you can change what goes on it.I used to dream I was falling from a mountain then realised I only had to tell myself to go up,not down.It really worked. Now I just have to work on the one where I'm walking down the high street in just a feather boa and different coloured welly boots. Ooops,sorry....the last one was'nt a dream

a long time ago i too used to have recurring nightmares like the ones you have described, I was told that i am a very spiritual person and the nightmares were the cause of spirits in limbo (people who don't accept they are dead) trying to contact the living world, as i was to afraid to persue my talents, i was told to get rid of these nightmares i had to go home and in my bedroom close my eyes and imagine silver crosses in every Conner of the room. With this vision in my head i was told to ask god to keep the spirits away as i was afraid and keep me safe. I no it sounds totally nuts, but i had these nightmares for years and doing this really worked, Try it what have you got to loose.

Please don't jump out the window, just in case!!

I have forced myself awake before, you just have to concentrate really hard. Oh dear, try to think nice thoughts before you go to sleep, like fluffy bunnies and rainbows, or think about being on a beach in Barbados! Try to deal with the things that have been stressing you out. These sometimes come out as nightmares.

I don't know how to wake up but I know when I was little and I had a nightmare my mom would give me a tiny glass of some warm milk it would settle my stomach and help me go to sleep. You don't really die when you die in your sleep I have died before and I am still alive :)

It's happened to me a couple of times. All you can do is close your eyes(dream or awake)and just try to relax and tell yourself it's just a dream. It normally helps for me.

I pinched myself during a dream onetime but I didn't wake up. It just really hurt.
