Up until three days ago we had five cats. Three nights ago two of them were killed. Night before last, another, dead. We determined that a Dog had attacked them.
So, last night I stayed up until about 3 am, sitting on the porch with my 12 guage shotgun waiting for the murderer to return. The murderer never showed. But during that time, my Golden and I sat there, silently.
It dawned on me that maybe he was the killer. Sure, he acts like he's all sweet and innocent, but maybe it's all a big scam to confuse? After all, this dog is smart. He gets really jealous when I pet the cats and up until they started getting murdered, I never really petted them. Something changed in me and I have started petting the cats, but now, there are only two left and I haven't even seen one of them today, so far.
It dawned on me that my beloved Shadow could be the killer. Have any of you ever caught your "so sweet" Golden killing animals out of jealousy?

Here is a picture of the Suspect and his next victim. Shadow appears to be manipulating Wesley into trusting him.

Okay, I did find the cats bodies. They wre definitely killed by a dog. I do not believe Shadow did this and yes, I did do this as a partial joke. However, it is no joke that my cats are being attacked and killed by a dog. And Shadow isn't doing anything to protect them as best I can tell. I am somewhat disappointed in him to be honest with you all.

OMG your dog looks just like mine, I have a 13 year old Golden named Boscoe, he's a hunny. They are not watch dogs though...he even let a whole family of quail walk across his nose. I had two of them, the other was Sasha, she was my baby. She knew I was preganant before I did all three times. She died of cancer and I still miss her. I've been carrying her ashes from house to house with me waiting till I know I'm home to bury her...does that sound sick? It's just that she always wanted to be with me and I can't leave her, so someday when I know I finally found a home I'll bury her.
Feel bad about your cats, how sad.

Anything is possible. I have a lab mix that loves one of my three cats, tolerates one and absolutely hates the other. Dogs are exactly like children. Jealousy is a real possibility and as far as killing the cats, that would be a possibility also. But since you have a golden, the fur would retain some traces of the attack (fluids and such) check carefully, especially around the collar area where he wouldn't be able to clean.

I'm sorry this is happening, but I certainly believe that your best friend Shadow could be the culprit.
Something people forget when they house animals: they are still animals. Just because you trust them and love them, does not mean that they aren't instinctual.
That's not to say that Shadow isn't head over heels in love with you...I'm sure he is. But being a dog makes him a hunter, and unfortunately for your felines, they may be the easiest prey.
It's a shame that your cats aren't able to get away from him...are you sure noone in your neighborhood is trying to give you grief?

Before u blame old faithfull, where do you live? is it possible some other creature is killing them? are there people in the area who might object to how many cats u have? (sounds bad but it does happen? make sure u have the right culprit, keep him with u at night in a closed room and see if they still get killed, maybe he just chews on them after they are already dead.
Some people do really sick things like poison cats for no reason.
MY sisters dog ate her birds when the cage was blown open during a storm, but left evidence of 'the crime' so she knew.

its possiblely so. keep your dog on his good side. make him sleep in your room, so he dosent go outside during the night. then if the killings still happen you should tell your neighbors and get animal control over there.
have you found the bodies of the cats? take it to a vet or to a proffesional peson of some sort to check it out. they will probably tell you what happened. im sorry about you cats. keep an eye on shadow.

wow. thats crazy. And by the way your a good story teller. I never had my dogs do this, but I do know how jealous dogs can get so I'm sure it is possible. Keep your cats and dog separated all the time! Then when the dog can't get to them I bet your cats will be safe.

well the first thing is to tell you that goldens don't make good guard dogs i should know i own 4 of them and they just don't guard. but they do guard the family and any one they feel they need to protect. goldens are loving dogs and that you should not expect him to guard anything other than the family. if i was you i would find out if there are any pits in the neighborhood and find out if they have been known to attack peoples cats. any aggressive dog will attack if their owners tell them to. but as for your golden, he will always be a loyal family pet and not the guard dog you want. sorry to hear about your cats and i hope you find the dog that did it and also goldens don't hold a grudge or get jealous they are just happy dogs and they want to please you for any reason. good luck in the hunt for the dog.

Dude, it's a set-up, and the pup's in on it. The cats found life better on the other side of the tracks and faked their own deaths. The cats wanted the dog to come with them, but he's decided to stay so you won't have to be alone. He remains loyal. A little touched in the head, but loyal.

Your dog isn't killing your cats if he didn't like them then he wouldn't let them get close to him,try having your dog inside for a couple of days, and see if anymore cats die.did you see the dead cats? if you didn't they could have been killed in a cat fight. But if your dog really didn't like your cats then he would show aggression to them whether you were around or not.
Good Luck!
