After years on visiting a Turkish friend, i have invited him to come to visit us for a week of two later this year.

There are many restrictions to Turkish people travelling but he is 27yrs old, he has completed his time in the forces and he has no interest in living here so surely he should be allowed a week or two holiday.

Can anyone give me any advice on how we can get him a Visa, who we need to speak to, a letter on invitation to the Consulate has been suggested.
Does anyone know what form this takes, what it's content needs to be, etc?
He will be living with me and my family for the time here although we would travel a little to show him the country.

Thank you in advance.

Hi,

You do need a letter of invitation, confirming that you are happy for him to stay with you during his entire stay, that you have sufficient room to accommodate him and that you have sufficient 'resources' to look after him whilst he is over here. I'd add just a sentence about how you know each other - why you are inviting him over.

He will need to go to the British Consulate in Istanbul and take as many documents as possible - showing that he has a bank account and sufficient money in it, to finance his stay, proof of employment in Turkey would be good as well, if he has a property in Turkey, it would be good to show that as well.

The Consulate would want to know that he just intends to come for a holiday and that he is able to finance his holiday. I can't remember what else but:

Here is the link for visa information from the Consulate in Istanbul

or try www.ukvisas.gov.uk

I wouldn't worry too much about the armed forces bit - passport control at Istanbul are well on the case about people escaping army - he will be checked for that whilst he goes through !

He will need to pay his visa fee - I don't know what it is now - about 10 years ago it was around £150 I think and will probably need to attend an interview at the Consulate. He must get the visa before he comes.

I had a friend many years ago who completely unintentionally came without a visa, thought he could get it on entry - and he enjoyed his brief stay in the UK at Heathrow then 2 hours later he was promptly sent back !!

Yeah, he should be allowed ovder here, Obv have to go through all the checks and stuff, but i cant see why he shouldn't be allowed over here, i know the whole Muslim thing but, i mean i Part live UK and Marmaris, and My boyfriend and friends are all turks have no problem coming over.

If hes done his National Service then yeah he shouldnt diffinatly be fine. you would be best off talking to airline reps, airport staff and you local MP and stuff because there in touch with the goverment, about the whoe Visa thing.

Sorry not much help.

Are you English or Turkish?

My advice would be to tread very, very carefully. My in-laws sponsored a Turkish guy to visit the UK - he was going to be staying with them. They had known his family for years and years and thought they could trust them.

The Turk came and stayed with them for a couple of months. Then did a runner! They were responsible because they had sponsored his visit. Months and months later he was found working in a fast food joint and married to the owner's 17 year old daughter who was expecting their baby. Convenient, eh??
