throw out your daughters rug, get her a new one and then close the door so your cat wont go in there. your cat keeps smelling the scent on the rug and no matter how many times you wash it out it will always have that scent. And he might be unhappy about something. is there anything new in the room with his cat box? maby he doesn't like the litter.
or he might have a bladder infection , or he could get excited when he sees you and he just cant control it.
but in any case I would take him to the vet. The vet should have additional ideas on how to prevent this little problem from happening again. Good luck

A UTI would cause pain while urinating, making him avoid the litter box because he assosiactes the box with pain.
If it's not a UTI (or similar infection), something may have happened to him in your bathroom that has made him leery of going in there to use his box.
He could be marking, but cats generally spray vertical surfaces when spraying to mark territory. He would back his butt up to something and let out a spray.....so him peeing on the floor may not be as simple as marking his territory.
So take him to the vet. If it's not an infection, your vet should be able to help you with any behavior modification to get him to stop.

They sell "Allert clutter" at walmart and puppy shops that differences colour if there's a bladder difficulty. i could verify that out first. on the recent domicile the cat shouldnt rather associate the bathing room with the previous bathing room so I wouldnt difficulty to plenty yet interior the recent place start up out with extra advantageous than a million clutter field so the cat can use which ever is nearer and study much less complicated after which you will get rid of one in case you like or each and every each and every now and then the cat will in simple terms decide which one they like terrific and use that one extra and then get rid of the different one. I save 2 in my domicile through fact they seem to apply the two rather frequently and whilst they have been kittens they have some "injuries" so as quickly as I extra the 2d field they have been wonderful

I do think his timidness plays a part as anything could scare him..marking his terriotry could not be it because indoors my cat does not pee...but he is free to go in out of the house at any time!.. if you adopted your cat later on in it's life his previous owner obv. hadn't litter trained it our abused it if it didn't do somethign right in the process which is making your cat jumpy..
Never punish your cat for having an accident. Do not strike her or rub her nose in the mess; instead, firmly say "No!", then place her in her litter box and praise her there. more tips like this ..

Whatever you do with the throw rug is unimportant... get that cat to the vet! May have a urinary tract infection, bladder infection or worse! Call a vet or animal emergency room right away! It may be nothing but at least you'll know that you didn't take unnecessary risks with your cat's health or life!

How old is he? If he is no longer a kitten, I think the behavior is really caused by pain - like urinary tract infection. Yes, do call the vet - if _my_ cat did that on me, I would definitely realize it meant "I have a problem, please pay attention to me? Help?"
Good luck, I hope he's OK. And good choice for scheduling neutering, too.

Take him to vet. He may have a bladder infection and be trying to tell you about it. Also make sure litter is clean. Throw away bathroom rug after you get him healed.

Hes spraying more then likely and way past time to get him fixed. try and move your neuter appointment up or you will just have to deal with this. I would also in the mean time have him checked for a bladder infection.

sounds like your cat may have a bladder or unianry tract infection. Take him to the vet to figure out if this is a medical problem. If it is behavioral it will be much harder to "treat". Ask your vet for suggestions.
