In the US, you can probably buy a brand new car for around $8,500. It will be very basic and stripped down, and will have a manual transmission. There will probably be fees that jack this up some, including license plates, taxes, registration fees and so forth. Of course, you can pay as much as you want for a far more luxurious car.

A new car will have a warranty, which will hold down maintenance during the warranty period. However, during the warranty you should probably figure on $50 per months for washes, waxes, cleanings, oil/filter changes wiper blades, worn tires and other regular maintenance items. After the warranty, you should figure on a minimum of $100 per month for repairs. There will be many months in which you have no maintenance, followed by a month in which you have a LOT of maintenance. Figure on setting aside $100 to create a nest egg for needed repairs.

The above figures are for a fairly basic car. If you get something more expensive and exotic, expect MUCH higher maintenance costs.

I've got a Ford escape. Since its new, its under warranty, so my only maintenance costs are the scheduled maintenance, which are somewhere in the area of 400 bucks a year. The vehicle itself was about 30K canadian. I leased it for 3 years with a 'single payment' lease ford offers, so I paid about 16-17k up front, then have no monthly payments till the lease expires, at which point I plan to buy the vehicle.

Don't forget other _major_ costs - gas and insurance, and possibly parking. Where I live, someone without an insurance history is going to be looking at 300-450 a month for insurance.

a stable chum has recently bought his XF which he's had through fact new, and that i've got pushed it on numerous events. the 1st element i could say is that in case you come across the 5 series 'uninspiring', you are going to hate the Jag! The BMW is plenty extra advantageous, even with the reality that the 520d isn't as stable through fact the extra useful variations. it rather is a great, heavy automobile. My brother had a 530d which became rather effective. Secondly, you're precise - the Jag does be afflicted by niggles & stressful faults, yet i found the extra severe 2 matters have been the dimensions of the motor vehicle & the bloody awful computerized gearbox. i'm over 6 toes tall, and found it particularly confusing to get out and in of - i won't be able to appreciate how a automobile it rather is so 'cumbersome' on the exterior has such stupidly small doorways & particularly little indoors area. The gearbox became an entire mess - even whilst utilising the sport putting & changing 'manually' with the paddles, you get genuinely no engine braking - I drove a 1994 3 series BMW final 365 days (an previous one among mine), and the gearbox became plenty extra suited & extra responsive: The Jag suffers from heavy tyre & brake placed on as you should use the brakes to gradual the motor vehicle the place or you would be utilising the engine & gearbox. i understand the XF has been voted 'government automobile of the 365 days' or maybe though industry call is obtainable, yet i've got not a clue why - I do exactly not cost them in any respect. such as you, my chum had bought a Jag in simple terms through fact he likes to purchase British (he's long previous for an Evoque now - I worry an excellent larger mistake, yet a minimum of it fairly is handbook!). if it is so, then you definitely're extraordinarily caught with what you are going to purchase, yet whilst it became me finding for a high quality government automobile and making an allowance for you at the instant are not inspired with the BMW, i could inspect a Lexus.

That's a bit of a broad question, you can pay anywhere from 10,000 to 500,000, and maintenance varies accordingly.
