Tomato juice won't do much, if anything. Call your vet clinic and ask if they sell a shampoo called Thiotrol. It is made specifically for pets that have been skunked. It also comes in a spray, but the shampoo is best for the initial treatment. As for a home remedy try this. Mix together 1/4 cup of baking soda, 1 quart of 3% hydrogen peroxide, and 1 teaspoon of liquid soap (like Dawn or something). Rub it all over the dog, all the way to the skin and let her sit for 10 minutes before rinsing. You may have to do it a couple of times to get rid of all of the smell but all of our clients that have tried it say it works. Good luck!!

All tomato juice is going to do is give you a red dog. It doesnt help.

Recipe for skunk odor...
Mix..
1 cup water
1/2 cup baking soda
1 tablespoon Dawn dishsoap
When ready to use, add 1 quart peroxide

Work solution into dogs coat and rinse really good. Dont get it in dogs eyes.

As for the house...all I can say is just air it out.

Truthfully, not much (so sorry to say) There are lots of products on the market that claim to take care of the smell, but none actually do. The only way to save your house is not to let the dog in until the odor subsides.

nygroomer's answer hits the nail on the head. My dog has a love/hate relationship with skunks, so I know whereof I speak - believe me. We go through this about 8 times a year. The baking soda/peroxide solution does really work - and the tomato juice doesn't (UNLESS you do it immediately after exposure). I wish you the best.

So simple,
just fill a tub [of your dog size] with hot water with a little cold water to make it feel nice and comfy for your dog. But be careful cause you should not let it be too hot it might burn the skin of dogs be it any breed. Get the dog shampoo and pour lots and lots of shampoo in the tub as well as on his body. Pour lots! Then leave it to rest in the water. Pull out the blocker to let the dirty water to flow out. Then if you have a hand shower, shower him with it [the same heat which you had filled the tub with] or if you don't either refill it or pour the same heat of water with a mug on it and dry him up with a towel. If it does not dry up still, then you can also use a hair dryer.
