Pitbulls are terriers. American Bulldogs have a face a bit like a Boxer crossed with a Staffordshire Bull Terrier. Pitbulls usually have large chunky bodies, with large wide, thick boned heads. They are powerful dogs. I see your misunderstanding with a difference of a pitbull and a terrier though. Most people see terriers as either little scottish terriers, border terriers or cairn terriers. These are all the same sort of size, with a similar coat. The pitbull is much stronger, and much more powerful. Its head is a completely different shape, and its coat is usually rather smooth and short haired.
Hope this helps.

Pitbulls ARE terriers....
there are many many different Terriers, from Yorkshire Terriers to Kerry Blue Terriers, to PuttBull or Staffordshire Terriers, to Airdale Terriers, Jack Russell Terriers.. etc
I beleive the Terrier group is the largest
Bull Dogs have shorter faces
basically the only way to tell what any dog breed actually is - is from the registration papers...
