I don't want slander or fighting, just real answers about what real-life issues affect your decision the most when deciding who to vote for AND how you gague whether the candidates are giving you what you want in those areas. As an afterthought, I'm also interested to know what party you think matches your values best, if any party does, and why.

This can be for local, state or national races. I encourage you to provide links to reputable sources containing information related to your answer.

Politics are a matter of personal opinion and personal decisions. You will not find a website for each individuals choices. The biggest factor for me is how much money are you going to put back in my pocket. That can be done via tax cuts or program reforms. I don't care which. I want no more taxes, ever! The republican party matches my values more closely. There are some items that I like about the democrat party, but with their now too close of a resemblance to socialism I avoid them entirely.
The two biggest issues right now other than taxes is security and the number one is illegals in this country.

First of all, for me, they have to have a likeable personality. Take Al Gore for example, he had a lot of good ideas I am sure, but there was just something about that guy that turned me off to him, and many others. Secondly as far as the issues are, keep taxes low, national security, the environment, foreign relations and immigration. I think the only way to gauge these area are the test of time. You never can know how someone will perform before you vote for them, its a matter blind faith. I would have to say the republican party, though I recognize they havent done things right in the past few years, but for their views on national security, taxation, death penalty, abortion would coincide more with my values.

I vote for who I agree with most...for example

the war and fighting back agains't terrorist - REPUBLICAN

Immergration and Illegals - NOBODY DID GOOD AT THIS

2nd amendment rights being preserved - REPUBLICAN

Smaller Federal Government (put the power back to the states) - LIBRATARIAN PARTY - but no canidates???

Downsize / reform taxes to a flat tax or national sales tax program - doing away with the IRS and all those confusing tax forms - BUSH TRIED so I have to say - REPUBLICAN

Freedom of religion preservation - REPUBLICAN

Right to life (abortion should be illegal) - REPUBLICAN

SO, that is just a few example. I'd say overall I am somewhere between Liberatain (not Libral) and Republican...I hold our conservative values above alot of other issues...and I have to say that the Republicans are closest to my personal beliefs...but after reading about the Libraterian Party I also agree with most of what they are about - but that is just what I read and cannot verify if that is true - or if they stick to those values.

I look at their past voting and decision making history. I also look at where they stand on my "core beliefs".

It's hard sometimes to figure out what each candidate has done due to slander and hype but if you look hard enough (and Thank God for the Internet) you can find all you need to know.

In order of importance:

1 - Keeping this country safe from those who wish us harm.

2 - Tax reform. The Fair Tax would not only keep people from cheating on their taxes, but it would also collect taxes from every illegal business in the country. When that drug dealer buys his new Mercedes, he'd be paying federal taxes.

3 - Illegal immigration. Round them up, and send them home! Also, pass a law that, if you are not in this country legally when your child is born, it is NOT a citizen.

I always vote against Democrats because they want to turn this into a socialist nation like the old Soviet Union.
They want to take away from working people and give to people who won't work.
