What's the most important thing, in your opinion, that you can teach your children?
My answer would be to try to put yourself in another's shoes, to understand that what you say or do affects how people react to you, to respect other people's feelings.

More basic. We are role models even when we aren't aware of it. Live the life you want your children to live; in both words and actions.

the most important thing you can teach your child is how to be a decent, compassionate, assertive, hard working person. As adults we need to harbor so many qualities just to make through one working day. It really is amazing everything a parent must teach their children.
you know my daughter is 18 months old. for a while now i've been thinking about the important things i must instill in her before she becomes an adult. this has been extremely troublesome for me because i really couldnt decide what qualities and how to actually instill them.
i'm thinking the best way to do this is lead by example. if you lead your life the way you want your children to, your children will see this and follow suit. My ROTC instructor told us that the best way to lead is to lead by example. Children love to imitate their parents and peers.

I think the most important thing you can teach your children is compassion. When I see children teasing another child I want my boys to see how much it hurts that child. Accept people for who they are, we are all different and special in our own way.

There's alot of important things-one for me would be to teach the act or moral of saying your sorry and really meaning it. Remorse I guess. Saying your sorry also teaches one about accepting ones responsibilities for their actions. Those 2 little words really make an impact.

They have to learn to stand up for what is right & what they believe in well before becoming over concerned with how others feel.
