I treat all people with respect. Why do people get so wrapped up in religion that they stop doing that? Why can you not all believe different things without having to discredit someome else? Why do you think you are right and they are wrong? I do not understand.

I agree. it is because they are so brainwashed in a world that has no perception of their own spirituality, so they unite with others and think that is the correct thing to do. Religion is amongst yourself, and if you dont have the spirituality within yourself to believe what you want to believe then I guess it it their way of doing what was taught all these years.
Forgiveness is the most important thing you can do for yourself. I do not follow a religion, in my opinion they are all small cults, following each other because they do not know the true meaning of why they are here. I also agree with what you said about being right or wrong. No one is better than the other. I live in the Bible Belt in the Midwest and religion is very strong here, but this is no way reflects the way I keep my spirituality. I just ignore them.
Have a great day.

That's a good question, that prompts a very long answer, but luckily I've only got a minute.

Religion is necessary for 2 reasons,
1 - it satisfies a psychological need to explain death and feel better with the loss of a loved one.
2 - it promotes a code for communities to live by and brings different communities together by offering a common ground.

It is essentially a necessary thing for a civilisation to progress beyond a tribal state.

The reason that there are different religions is that mankind can not really understand the workings of the spiritual world (assuming there is one) as effectively we are dealing with something we can not see, hear, or touch. Therefore there are many different interpretations of what it all might mean.

The problem comes when two of these different belief sets meet each other - it would be nice to think that we could all get along regardless, but the truth is psychologically we all need everyone else to see the world our way so that we can feel comfortable, so inevitably we will have conflict - despite the fact that most religions preach a message of peace, we will all fight for our interpretation because - well we are human, and its in our nature.

Discrediting others seems the norm now. Ever notice those that are running for some political office rarely say what they're going to do for you, but instead tell you what the other guy didn't do.
It's become a sad thing when the world accepts this kind of behavior..
When growing up, I was taught to respect others, no matter what. Differences make us unique.. and even with differences, we still have so much in common.. that's what we should be seeing.
I am a Christian.. wrapped in Gods grace.

If two faiths make claims that are contradictory to one another, then both faiths can't possibly be right. Take Christianity and Islam for example. Christians claim that Jesus is God's son. Muslims claim he was just a prophet. Either one is right or they are both wrong, but let’s assume that Islam is right. If Islam is right, then Christian faith is false.

If I believe that my faith is only the true faith, then naturally I am going to think that all other faiths are false. Christianity is such a faith. It says that the only way to God is through Jesus. If it makes this claim, then that means no other faiths can lead to Jesus, and therefore the other faiths must be false. If I change this claim, then it is no longer the Christian faith, but something else. If I accommodate other beliefs from other faiths, then I fundamentally change the Christian faith and it becomes something else. If I choose only certain beliefs in Christianity and reject others, then it becomes something else. A religion has to maintain its claims in order to be that religion by definition.

It is possible however to respect other religions and still believe they are wrong. It is possible to have interfaith friends who are dearly devoted to their own religion and you can still think they are wrong. It is likely that they think you are wrong. This doesn't give one the right to bash people though because they disagree. Besides, in most religions, this would be considered inconsiderate anyways.

It's true, religion can be a great thing and really enrich people's lives, but people end up arguing over it and it's pointless.
I think the reason is that it is something that we can't be sure of, so everybody has a different opinion, and because it means so much to people.
It is stupid that they can end up forgetting what they believe in (peace, love and tolerance) in order to protect those same values!
I know I'm guilty of it on occasions, and I hope that I can grow out of it!

I hear you. I am not religious. I respect other people's religions and ejoy hearing about experiences. What annoys me is when they try and start selling it to me and try to get me to come to church or whatever.

To me that is arrogance. It insinusates that they know better than me, that I am wrong and they are right. I respect their beliefs - respect mine. I do not need a religion to feel complete!

There, feel better now that I have ranted.

Normally I do not. But, I do enjoy it on this site.

I do find that those who are so wrapped up with it in their everyday life need it for support, need it to feel that they are worth something. I think most people who are so ''into'' their religion and push it on others, are very weak and unfulfilled people.

I agree, I am a Christian but believe everyone, the non-believers and the sinners, I love and treat them all with respect. I have homosexual, Hindu, Atheist, agnostic, Cathlic, Jewish, and ect, kind of friends.....you can be religous and respectful of other peoples' lifestyles. I may not approve of their lifestyle, but I will not treat them differently...Jesus would do the same

because people like you are constantly talking and asking about it. the more people talk about it the more they get wound up about it. Religion is the root of all evil and the cause of all wars and mankind will never live side by side and in peace with his neighbours because of all the different religions and faiths and gods.
