I need to know how to get publishers to take me seriously and hopefully get published. What are some pointers when submitting your draft to publishers?

Get a copy of the writers and artists yearbook, its published annually. it tells u how to submit a book properly, Yes an agent is probably gonna be able to do it for you but to get an agent you still have to go through a screening process.
If what u have written is worth publishing, it will be recognised eventually, I read that the author of the harry potter books submitted the first one to heaps of publishers before one liked it!

You need an agent. No publisher is going to look at unsolicited work by an unknown writer.

Yes, get an agent. And a good stylebook. They won't read manuscripts that aren't presented in a legible format. It will tell you all about how to format the text so it is acceptable.

Publishers don't pay attention to authors. They pay attention to agents.
