yes, you can call your general practitioner and ask them to refer you to someone...also you can call your state mental health board and find out about services that are offered in your area, and you can also call a toll free crisis line... even local hospitals most of the time have a number to call to talk to a nurse who may give you advice too...

It depends if you have HMO insurance or PPO. If you have HMO then most likely you need to go to the GP first and they will refer you to the appropriate practitioner. If you have a PPO then you can probably pick your own provider. You should call the phone number on your insurance card and get direction as to what procedure you need to go through. Usually your insurance has a web site where they list all of the providers and their qualifications that you can go to in your area. I would suggest that you see a psychologist first. They are experts at talking through your feelings with you and very often that is all you need.
They can give you tools to deal with your anxieties and concerns without the use of drugs. If they feel that your problem is truly due to a chemical imbalance or if they are unable to help you with just talk therapy, they may suggest you see a psychiatrist. Psychiatrists are really just pill pushers and you are their guinea pigs. There are a myriad number of drugs out there for a myriad number of psychiatric ailments and from my experience with friends and family members, the psychiatrists pretty much try one thing and if that doesn't work they'll try something else for awhile and I have seen more people get totally messed up and never get the right concoction for what ails them. Try your best and give it time to work out your issues with a good therapist. It may take a couple of years and it will take work, including reading books, journaling and learning to let go of the past. It's about disciplining your mind to be healthy.

I would first recommend that you put down on paper what is bothering you most at this time, and what "your" future would look like in your reality. It is not uncommon for all of us at one time or another in our lives to have felt like the chair has been kicked out from under us!!! No amount of money, love, or material things can cure this. Secondly go to your General Pract. and let them know how you are feeling. The Dr. will run general blood tests and do a full exam. Then, if needed direct you to a specialist to help you from there. Remember this. You are 100% responsible for your body and mind!!!! Medication can help, but most importantly take it one day at a time, and reward yourself for all the small steps you take. Good Luck my friend!!! YOU DESERVE THE BEST, NOW GO GET IT!!!!!!!!!!

First, I'd go talk to my doc. Just my regular doctor-he/she would refer me to someone who could futher help with whatever the problem may be. Or just find a therapist and set up an appointment. People make therapy out to be some scary thing-but it really is something that I enjoy, actually. I started seeing a therapist about a year ago, going every week. Now, I just go once or twice a month. It's nice to talk to someone who can be totally objective to your situation...
So, good luck with that. Just know that when you seek help, you WILL find it. It will be okay.

If you're looking for counseling, then you might start with getting a referral from your doctor. However, I think you can seek out a counselor on your own if your concerned with privacy.
I'm not a big fan of medication just for the sake of treating symptoms of depression. I'm a firm believer that depression is a result of our beliefs and thoughts about life. (Though I will accept sometimes brain chemistry can get out of balance and sometimes people need to clear their mind of the negative emotions to find healing.)
Also, seek out some inspirational books to read from whatever tradition you find comfort in.

LISTEN....The fact that you are asking for help is great!! I suggest getting immediate help!! Call a crisis center(in the phone book) in your area,,there is no commitment and they WILL steer you in the right direction!! LIKE NOW..and you will probably feel temporarily better just long enough to take the next step..
i hope this helps!! Good Luck!!!

I suggest talking with a pastor of a church or even a church member. I know there is some quack churches out there, but maybe you will find the right pastor to talk with. You dont have to join to talk to him or even go there.
