maybe he knows that you can take the jokes better than the other person

That means he doesn't respect your feelings. You need to talk to him about it, and if the behavior changes and he really takes your feelings to heart, it will have been worth it. If he doesn't, and only increases the belittle-ing, then chances are he's not going to change. Then, you have to ask yourself, in what other ways does he not respect me? And that might lead you to an answer as to whether you should keep him in your life.

It means he find you inferior to him. He will not help you to gain confidence , better leave him now or stay in depression for ever . Also start read and memories lots of jokes to gain self confidence and give back to those who try to demoralize you . Good luck .

He is feeling inferior to you for some reason and wants to bring you down. Get rid of him unless he admits to what he is doing and changes his behavior. He will only get worse as time goes on.

Two thoughts: 1) he likes you but isn't mature enough to tell you- so he gets your attention any way possible. 2) For some reason he just doesn't like you.
If you can't help but be around him, try the nice approach- it tends to make them think you are up to something, meanwhile everyone else thinks you are reasonable.
