3500 calories burned = 1 pound of weight loss....basically you would need to lower your calorie intake by 500/day OR burn 500 calories/day

A pound (of fat tissue) is about 3'640 calories.

If you wanted to lose that in a week, you'd need to be short 3'640 / 7 = 519 calories a day.

That's a lot and if you wanted to do it only from eating less, you'd find a bit disagreeable. Not impossible, but disagreeable.

Better to couple this with a bit of extra exercise. For example jogging, for a man of average weight and size, burns off about 120 calories per mile. So to get to those 520 calories, you could run 2 miles each day burning off 240 calories, and eat 280 calories less (bread, for example, is 1150 calories a pound).

Hope this helps

one pound of body weight can be different calorie amounts depending on whether it is a pound of water, muscle, or fat...

To burn one pound of fat you would have to burn 3,500 calories more than you consume because a pound of fat has 3,500 calories..

Muscle has 2,500 calories per pound and water has 0 calories per pound.

You can lose a pound of water in less than an hour just by exercising without drinking...

But of course you'll gain that right back at the water fountain.

3,500 calories == 1 pound.

So, if you eat 500 less calories per day, you lose one pound in one week.

Might be better to eat 250 less calories, and exercise for the remainder.
