MYTH: Traveling on a modern jet airline is much safer than traveling by car.
REALITY: Traveling by car is 12 times safer than traveling on a commercial jet airline. If you were to travel by plane as often as you travel by car you would be 12 times more likely to be involved in a plane crash compared to a car crash. Put another way, traveling by plane is 12 times more likely to kill you than traveling by car for the same number of journeys. The only reason air travel is perceived to be safer than car travel is because most people do not travel by air as often as by car.

Just because people say that airplane traveling is safer than cars doesn't make it true!
Yeah, I know about the statistics saying that less people die from airplane crashes than car crashes. On top of that, I believe these stats. However, what these people fail to realize is that they don't make much sense when you think about them. You can't compare how many people die by airplane on a given year compared to how many people die by car. It's nonsense! There ´s way too many cars compared to planes. There ´s way too many car rides compared to plane rides. Then of course there ´s many more car accidents, any given year! It's like comparing apples and oranges.
For the statistics to make sense, you'ld have to multiply the number of air plane rides an incredible number of times. There ´s almost a car for every household out there. However, you can't say that there ´s a private jet plane for every household though!

this is 2015 now and im 9 years late but I will still comment for people today. I feel its safer to drive. when I flew to newfoundland years ago I kept thinking about whether or not my plane would crash I felt very uptight. when im in a car I feel calm. you have to go with how you feel. but for me I would say its safer to drive that's as if there are no idiots swerving and speeedign trying to show off with their friends or drunk drivers. and even so drunk drivers can be spotted a mile away you can prevent yourself from contact with them. I watch the news every day. and yes there are auto accidents where many walk away with minor injuries while a small amount perish. in Canada I would say in one year less than 100 people died in auto deaths and many more injured. since this ear there has been 5 plane crashes where the last one sent 29 injured to hospital. the other plane crashes everyone died. and in 2014 there were many plane crashes as well. so from January to march of 2015 there were 1200 casualties in plane accidents within a 3 month time period. I have never ever heard of 1200 people being killed in auto accidents within 3 months. Ill tell you this you people may feel its safer to fly but once that plane shakes and rattles thousand of feet up and the pilot announces to the passengers to get into crash position you will wish you had of taken the car instead

Naturegirl...
Great question...with a very simple answer. First, imagine, right now, that there are literally thousands of commercial air flights in the air. There were thousands of others in the air this morning and later this afternoon AND tonight there will be thousands and thousands more. Ok...got it? Pretty scary, huh? Now go to sleep tonight and when you wake up, start over...same scenario. But, remember that in Europe and Asia while we were sleeping thousands and thousands of flights were flying there as well.
My point is this...tens of thousands of commercial flights take off EVERY DAY! And they almost all land safely. In a typical month...on the planet...there may be two or three crashes of jets that hold 20 passengers or more.
Now remember that in the United States...EVERY YEAR...there are over 50,000 deaths in auto accidents. That doesn't count the many times more that are injured. Let's see...50,000/52 weeks...that's about 1000 deaths a week...OR...about 150 deaths EVERY DAY! Would you be concerned if, every single day in the United States a commercial airliner with 150 people onboard crashed and everyone was killed? I know I would be a little nervous.
I've traveled to Asia twice, South America three times and Europe three times. I'll be back to Europe in November and then again in December.
Air travel is, BY FAR, the safest way to travel. Just sit back and relax. You're in good hands with professional pilots that have flown thousands of flights. You're in a jet that has been designed and tested to handle pretty much anything that comes its way.
When you're in a car, there are idiots everywhere, driving with family problems, drinking, too old, too young, too fast, too slow...the roads are slick, it's raining, people talking on cell phones. I travel for a living and hate getting on the road sometimes. I see so many stupid things and have had so many close calls.
On planes, I've traveled to about 30 countries and have been on over 150 flights with about 500,000 miles flown.
Bottom line naturegirl...you're safe on airplanes. Much safer today than ever before. Remember when you wake up tomorrow...were there any crashes? Check the news. Then remember that the cycle of flights continues with everyone arriving safely pretty much everyday. Go see the world...

Take care...

Patriot Self Defense system achieves success for two main reasons. The first is that it use easy steps integrated from all the best battling designs available. The second is that the makers of this program didn't stop there, they took these moves right into the laboratory and ran all kind of clinical examinations to amass as much data as feasible before setting to work to examine this information and assembled a clinical industrialized self-defense system that quite frankly transforms the market.

I don't know a single person who has died in an airplane crash but I do know at least 5 who have died in car crashes. That's just people I know personally. Since we spend so much more time and miles in cars than in planes, it's more likely that we will be in a car when something bad happens than in a plane. Plus, airline pilots are highly trained, closely regulated professionals and their vehicles are inspected by a mechanic almost constantly. When you compare that to drivers who barely passed their road tests, don't see anything wrong with talking on their cell phones while driving, and at the most have their car inspected for safety once every two years, well, I think I will take my chances in the air!!!

Taking into account all the thing's ( and more ) that you argue -
Million's of people travel in many way's, statistically ( all the statistic's ) it is physically, much safer to travel by air; There are fewer death's and injuries over greater distances - all the figures say so; This might only be because security of flight is paramount and controlled to a greater degree than a car trip, fewer random's or idiot's at the wheel, more passenger's and fewer vehicules involved etc. Either way it is still correct statistically - so that's why they say it.x

Airplane crashes kill many people at one time usually. That's why we tend to fear flying. In actuality, airplane travel is safer than car travel. Think about all the car accidents that happen all over the country everyday.Plane crashes are usually years apart.

i imagine your way of wondering is logical yet per chance somewhat more beneficial theory is so as. There are some issues about flying that are a definate. One is that if the plane is airborne and has to land because of failure you more beneficial than probable received't live on. even if lets seem on the excuses of deaths in autos. even as your driving an motorized vehicle you've thousands even thousands of pounds of metal and so on heading precise for you. even although you've administration of your motorized vehicle this does no longer advise that you wont have a collision. Its no longer how strong you stress that retains you out of an coincidence. Its how strong different individuals stress. One in 3 injuries concerning autos is a fatality and thirty p.c. of injuries are human beings whose driving change into impaired because of alcohol or drugs. Now with cellular telephones, smoking, eating, childrens, highway rage, economic gadget, stupid human beings, there are a form of issues that would make driving a intense probability. in case your in a plane you definately have a lot less site visitors interior the air. no longer that there hasn't ever been a collision of planes yet lets face it, it doesnt ensue typically. enable me see if i visit make an analogy to more beneficial positive understand. 2 adult men depart San Francisco one through automobile and one through plane. the only on the plane will pay 298 funds to commute to ny with one 2 hour layover in Denver making his flight average about 9 and a 1/2 hours. the position because the only which is driving has to quit and authentic off each and every 2 hours and it takes him 4 and a 1/2 days to make the vacation. Do you imagine the guy interior the automobile had more beneficial opportunities to die than the only interior the plane? I do. desire i ought to help sorry it change into so long.

If you take the number of people and the hours spent in cars and on aircraft, air travel is much safer. Most deaths on aircraft are caused by fire and smoke inhalation, the crash landing is the safe bit.

me myself think planes are safer the odds of a plane crash is one in a million getting in a car accident just think if you travel 1000 miles how many cars, semis, road cunstruction and animals could cause you to crash and lack of sleep diistractions so many ways to get hurt on the way and in the plane really two terrist or malfuction of the plane
