My brother is in need of a kidney. When I found out I told him and my sister-in-law that he could have mine. Now a lot of people are making a big deal about it...like telling me...are you sure?....why dont you wait and see if your older brothers will do it, who are in other states at this time, I dont see what the big deal is....If it were your brother, sister, mom, dad, uncle, aunt , any family member wouldnt you do it?

My sister donated a kidney to a co- worker. We were all surprised that the doctors agreed to this because she wasn't in the best of health to begin with. The guy who got the kidney is doing very well and is almost 100% My sister because of her bad health to begin with never fully recovered. that was about 5 years ago. She has lost a lot of weight and looks like a 70 year lady. She is 55. Make sure that you are in very good health. and there should be no complications. you are doing a great thing. but make sure that its safe for you to do so.

It is a big deal and very generous. It is because of the possibility that something may happen to your one remaining kidney. This would be a serious health issue. Yes, I'd probably do it, too. But you're right to ask these questions first and find out the risks you may face.

I couldn't just sit around and do nothing like my doctors suggested.
They didn't want me to do anything or to take herbs or herbal remedies, but I had to try something - they just wanted me to do dialysis!
This program allowed me to take control of my health. I went from Stage 4 to Stage 3 kidney disease.
It was easy to do and my BUN, creatinine and anemia are all in better ranges.

they might be making a big deal out of it because of your age. maybe religion is part of it. do a lot of research. lot it up on the web. they might be afraid that since your brother is in trouble it could happen to you later in life then who do you have to help you. ask them what there fears are of you doing this. get some more info about this before you jump into it. find out what will happen to your life. your life style will also have to change.

First they have to check if you are a match. Second, if you are, if something happens to your one kidney, that's all you've got. Also, there's no guarantee that giving the kidney will be accepted by the other's body.
Is it a big deal? Yes, and you know it is. My question is, do you value yourself at all or are just naturally unselfish?

Because you can help save your brother's life. For a transplant except for heart, they do testing to see if it's compatible to yours, before they do to a donor bank. You don't want to see your brother dying, due to a failed kidney. Save his life!!! I would do it for anyone of my family member, except for my aunt and grandfather, since they've passed away.

its really nice of you to answer....i saw this documentary and it mentioned a lot of side effects of having one kidney...i think you should make yourself aware of all the consequences before you do it and if you still think its the Best thing to do for your brother rather than find him a good donor go ahead and do it...I would give a kidney to any one of my loved ones just cause i want them to live as well as i am.....then again i would weigh the odd depending on whether you have a family and kids to support and stuff....give it a good thought...take care

Because its a difficult proceedure, because its a hard recovery, because it is a life changing experience. On the other hand if i was in your shoes giving an organ i wouldn't think twice.
