well It can if you do it correctly. There is a delay between the stomach and the brain. The stomach will fill to its copacity long before the brain is notified of it. So you can chew each bite of food 26 times before swallowing this gives your brain more time to get the message the stomach is full. We over eat because we still feel hungry due to the time delay. The slower you ingest food the less you will eat before you feel full.

Appetite works like this: when sufficient mass is sitting in your stomach, your stomach nerves sends those impulses to the brain ("stomach is heavy now"). Upon receiving this information, your brain secretes a hormone to tell you "I'm full" and give you that feeling of satisfaction. The transmission of the mass information, and the secretion of the hormone, take time. If you eat more slowly, the linkage between the stomach saying "I'm done" and you feeling full will occur after less food has been eaten.

Interestingly, an herb (look for "Garcia C---(something)" at the health food store) is a natural source of the "I'm full" brain hormone. If you swallow this herb an hour before your meal, you will actually eat less and still feel full.

Yes, it's true! I have heard several nutritionists say this, and searched on Google for the proof and here it is...

Eating slowly may help overweight people lose weight after all, according to a new study that tested the commonly held belief.

The study showed that overweight men and women actually ate less when they ate a slower than usual pace.

Researchers say the study shows that eating slower may assist overweight men and women in their weight loss efforts. Their results were presented this week at the annual meeting of the North American Association for the Study of Obesity in Las Vegas.

Eat Slow, Lose Weight

In the study, 28 overweight men and women ate a lunch of chicken nuggets at their normal pace in order for researchers to establish their habitual eating pattern.

Then over the course of three lunches, researchers varied the pace of the same meal by instructing the participants to take a bite when they heard a computer beep.

In the first lunch, they ate a prolonged meal in which the pace of the entire meal was slowed by 50%. In the second, they ate a decelerated meal in which the pace of only the last half of the meal was decreased by half, and in the final meal they ate at a steady pace.

The participants were told that the computer beeping would last indefinitely and they could eat as much or as little as they wanted.

The study showed that all of the participants ate more during the steady meal than in either of the slower meals. The difference between each of the three meals was largest among the men. However, researchers say only a small number of men were involved in the study (six), and more research is needed to confirm this result.

But they say this study shows that a slower rate of eating results in people eating less, which may help them lose weight.

there are a good type of protein shakes obtainable and a number of them flavor ok, and some are fantastically undesirable. the important challenge is with the 'plan' this toddler is describing, is that even once you're making it the 5 days and take off somewhat weight, you won't be able to drink no longer some thing yet shakes for some thing of your existence. The minute you pass again to ingesting established nutrients, any weight lost is going to go back actual again, and could probable deliver friends.

This is called as 'satiety value' of the food and gives you satisfaction. Eating slowly doesnt mean that you eat those fatening junkies for a long time n expect it to help u in weight reduction. It depends on choosing the food such that it should have greater satiety value but lesser calories and make a proper diet excluding the food that gives u lesser satiety value and more calories then hopefully his will help in losing ur weight. Satiety value of the food gives the sense of satisfaction to ur tummy... morre filling and less fattening!!

It's all about portion controll. If you only allow yourself a normal, smart amount of food per serving then stop eating no matter what then you don't have to worry how fast you eat. We tend to over eat! A normal size portion they say is the amount of food that comes in one of those frozen food containers like weight watchers or lean Cuisen. Take the empty container and save it so that you can now measure your next meal.

Yes, timing is important. It takes your brain 20 minutes to acknowledge that your stomach is full. By then, you have probably eaten more than you need. Take your time, converse with others, put your fork or spoon down between bites. Use a smaller plate to make a normal portion look larger. No seconds!

P.S. It's LOSE, not LOOSE.

It sure does... it's really a simple explaination too... basically when you eat slower it gives you body time to realize it's full. If you eat too quickly, then food hasn't made it down to the pat that sends the message to you brain telling you that ur satisfied... so that's why when you eat fast, you end up eating more and feeling totally stuffed when you're doe... you've overeaten because you didn't give your body enough time to think.
Well... Good Luck!

Yes, very. The slower you eat, the quicker the body thinks it fulls. When you're shoveling in the food, the brain takes longer to realize it's full and so you eat more, thus gaining weight.

Yes because when you eat slowly and chew your food more it makes you feel more satisfied so you actually eat less. There fore you do not eat as much, and do not take in as many calories, fat, etc. and your food digests faster absorbing less of the bad stuff into your system to store.
