She was a breeders dog previously, I was told by the breeder that She had been bred to another pom larger than she & that the pups were taken by C-section that was why they decided to get rid of her.....They had over 20 poms. She is a fox-faced pom. I brought her home to be a pet only..She is in heat & my friend wants to breed her, she also breeds, her dogs are not as well bred as she is...Is it safe to let her have one more litter? I have had her for 2 years & I don`t want her to come to any harm.

Yes, she is too old and the reason the breeder no longer wanted her is because she was a high risk breeder after having a c-section already and they knew she could no longer safely handle a pregnancy. Add in her age factor and the previous c-section and the chance her uterus could rupture and you realize it just wouldnt be safe. YOu would probably end up losing mom and the pups :(

Not only is she too old, having had a c-section puts her at high risk of needing another. Plus, you should have her spayed, as she is at an age where she is at greater risk for pyometra. That is where they get a horrible uterine infection & need to be given an emergency spay & may die anyway from the toxins in their body. Since she is in heat now, you should call your vet and make an appointment to have her spayed 4 weeks from now, when all the internal swelling has gone back down. I also am surprised the breeder did not have it done before she placed her, or required you to have it done. That was irresponsible, and dangerous to this dog!

Yes defiantly to old to breed, the latest I would recommend breeding a dog is 6 years, and I even think that that is too old. Not impossible, but breeding a dog too old can cause health problems, and she may have trouble delievering, and can stress them out very badly, it is hard for them giving birth and then to take care of a litter of pups for 6 weeks, it makes them weak, and if you breed them right after they just weaned pups they will become worse.

Your pom is too old to breed. 8/9 is pretty old, maybe equivilante to like 50 to 60 in human years. Would you like to pop out twins or tripletts when you that old? Its probably best just to keep loving her and spoiling her, I think thats all she would want for her retierment.

She is definitely too old to breed and the risk factors are too high. What concerns me is that she came to you and hadn't been spayed. The previous "breeder" seems to be very irresponsible and unethical.

Don't breed her, just enjoy her company as a pet. Let your breeder friend invest in dogs with better bloodlines, not jeopardize your pet's health.

That's really too old for a litter. Sorry, but it would be too stressful on the dog.

I think she is too old plus considering the hard time she had before I wouldn't breed her...you may lose her if you do.

Please do not breed this dog, she's too old for it to be safe for her.
