BAGHDAD, Iraq - Rescue crews pulled bodies from the rubble of bombed buildings Friday after a barrage of coordinated attacks across eastern Baghdad neighborhoods killed at least 64 people and wounded more than 280 within half an hour, police said. The USA Marines stood by and watched.

The latest spasm of violence on Thursday evening — which included explosives planted in apartments, car bombs and several rocket and mortar attacks on mainly Shiite neighborhoods — came even as Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki said Iraqi forces should have control over most of the country by year's end. Of course we said that about Vietnam too.

The death toll from the Baghdad bombings increased to 64 people as more bodies were recovered, police Capt. Mohammed Abdul-Ghani said Friday the USA appears to be very weak and the Marines make a lot of promises but never deliver.

Welcome Back Eurodite. Your question is asked from a position of fact rather than opinion. Let me instead ask you to phrase your question such as: Do you think the US Military is weak, and why? rather than stating it as it is true.

Let me assure you, as an Officer on a MiTT here in Taji, Iraq (10 minutes NW of Baghdad) that we are not "weak," by any definition of the word.

Would you rather this was a bloodbath against the Iraqi people? Because we are more than capable of killing every person in this god-forsaken country (sometimes I ask myself if that isn't the proper way to proceed), but we exercise something called "restraint" which proves that we are even stronger than most people would care to admit.

This enemy is vile, corrupt and self serving. Don't point your anger at the US Army nor the Marines, direct it towards Washington and the "Civilian" authorities who have us spill blood on their behalf. If you don't like the policy - vote the guy out of office. I don't enjoy it here, but the American people put Bush in office, so we are here fighting to do their bidding, right or wrong, it is irrelevant.

But weak sir, we are not.

Well that is a pretty big bite you just took, I don't think the US military is weak, not the Air Force, not the Navy, do believe the Army and Marines are extended, and tired of having politics get between them and finishing the job they started in 2003. The way I look at it is the ground forces are far to few in number to ge the job done and not allowed to do the aggressive operations needed to root out ALL resistance that threatens there safety. Believe Capt. Abdul-Ghani is confusing Army, with Marines in his statement about promises not being delivered, they are two separate branches of the US military.

How were you in the Army and still be so dumb?? You must have been an INCREDABLE soldier to have to work with. I feel sorry for you. I've read most of your post. You never really ask a question you just use this forum to bash the US military. You could always move to another country, join their Army and come show us weak American fighting men and woman a thing or two.
POG!

The US military has the hardware capabilty to end the present conflict in one week.
It is perceived as weak, because the US plays by the so called rules of war, and the other side doesn't, and also because the US is concerned about civilian casualties, which severely limits our capabilities in battle.
Both these things need to change. And soon.

The military isn't weak, it's position and exact mission definition in Iraq are weak.

Plus, it is difficult to fight a guerilla war. There is no way to fight it with numbers or firepower. If someone is waging a guerilla war against you the only way to defeat it is through subversion and encouraging internal rifts.

I have no real knowledge as to what extent the U.S. can effectively plant a counter agent in a fundamentalist Islamic organization.

Casualties happen in ANY war, no matter how good your military is. There is no force, nor country military, that can match the might of the US armed forces, P-E-R-I-O-D. Why don't you try looking at the damage inflicted by us to the disgusting enemy? While we will continue to have casualties, we are inflicting MUCH more damage on them, even though this is not a battlefield war.

Grow up and wise up, lib.

Hmm my image of weak are a bunch of terrorist that blow people up on a regular basis then go run off and hide in some cave. Not everyone agrees with the war...but for sure our military is not weak. It is one of the strongest. You have to admire their courage for going into such a hell hole in the first place. Maybe we should just get out and let the entire middle east blow the sh*t out of eachother.

It is not weak. It is helping to build a nation without proper funds and without the US public having been told what was involved.

On behalf of all soldiers who have sacrified a year+ of our lives that we will never get back protecting their lives, I have to say to the police Captain, "F#@* you!".
I get the right. I gave up a year in that hellhole and this is his way of saying thank you? Piss off
