These pups are old enough to try them on very runny food for them to lap up. Use a blender and put your dry puppy food in the blender until it is a powder. Add some canned puppy food to this, and add as much water to this mixture to make it a slurry for them to eat. You can add the milk replacer to this. You can try goats milk or kid milk in this if you want. Put this in flat feeding pan and let the pups lap this up. This should help with their bowels. If you have not wormed the pups, I would do that as well. We worm at 2,4 and 6 weeks initially.

I wouldn't take ANY advise given from your "friend" who OBVIOUSLY has NO clue how to breed because the dam DIED. Best to call the vet, and they should be able to advise you in what milk to use and how often/much. Yes, it's pretty normal. BTW- Three-week old puppies cannot regulate their own body temperature. Without the mother to keep the puppy warm, an artificial warm environment must be created. A 3-week old puppy's sleeping area should be kept at 80 degrees. To make the sleeping area, fill a box with shredded newspaper. Place a heated pad underneath half of the sleeping box. By placing the heating pad under half of the box only, you are allowing the puppy the option to move away from the heat source. Choose a heating pad that has a temperature control so that you can adjust the heat.

Here are some facts for you for rearing of a pup.
1. Feeding Instructions for a Pup.
Up to age of 3 months the pup is to be fed with 5 feeds a day as per the following schedule:

Time Feed Tonic

7.00 am ½ to 1 cup of undiluted whole milk. Add ½ to 1 Table Give ½ to 1 tea
Spoonful of Complan / Horlics powder. Give ½ to 1 toast spoonful
(Crisp). This should be not soaked in milk and do not apply Calcium syrup
any butter or cream.
11.00 am Serve ½ cup of Ceralac or Dallia with ½ cup of milk

2.00 pm Repeat 7.00 am feed.

6.00 pm Repeat 11.00 am feed.

9.00 /10.00 pm Give ½ to 1 crisp toast and ½ cup of whole milk Give ½ to 1 tea
Spoonful of Calcium
syrup plus ½ to1 tea spoonful
of multivitamin syrup.

vAfter 3months one feed should be withdrawn.
vAfter 4 months complan / Horlics / ceralac can be stopped and start feeding chappaties , rice , vegetables, non veg ( cooked meat ).
vFood should be neither too hot nor too cold when served.
vSince Dog is a meat eating animal if is to be given only vegetarian diet then extra care for calcium should be taken.
v Do not over feed your pet, in case its over fed , then this can result into your pet getting loose motions. In such case reduce the feed and cut short a meal. Stop or reduce Calcium syrup.
vWhen pup is 5 month old cut another meal and at about 7 to 8 months onwards it can be fed only two times a day. Adjust the timing of feeds accordingly.
vThe last feed should be given well in time before bed.
vMost Important, there should be no abrupt /sudden change in the diet / feed. This may cause indigestion to your pup.
Keep the Feeding and Drinking water utensils clean

Well, there is stool softner you can buy for dogs, but since they are so young I don't know if that is a good Iidea or not. try feeding them smaller meals, now they may eat more tmes a day but this might help a little other than that I think your vet should be a little more helpful, hope things work out and congrats on your new editions

depending on the type of milk you have. there are different textures of the replacement milk and you don't want the milk to be thick. always check the exp.date to make sure that the milk is still good. if the milk has expired than it will cause a problem with the pups going potty. never add anthing else to the milk till they are about 4-5 wks old then you should start them on some solids. ok wait they are 3 weeks old you can start them on solids and keep them on the milk and when they reach 6 wks you can take them off the milk and have them on solids completely. i breed golden retrievers and i start to wean them at 3 wks on solids but i still keep them on mom, and when they turn 6 wks i wean them from mom and they are on solids for good. well good luck on your pups.

at three weeks they dont have much in the way of teeth yet but you can start them on some canned puppy food, they wont eat much of it but they will "suck" the juices out it,this will have a laxative affect for them as their systems aren't used to anything but the replacer milk so the canned food will be a shock to the sysyem and will loosen their stool a bit...it works i have had this problem before
ps works better if you warm the food first it makes it juicier

ask your vet about using goats milk as the puppy milk maybe the source of the stool problem. You can try giving the puppies mashed up cooked veggies such as carrots and peas or get some baby food veggies these can be given right from the jar

The Welpi puppy that I use comes in powder form. Can't remember the dosage, I know that Cimicat, is one spoons of powder to three spoons of water. But if it is the powder this should be mixed with more water then powder.
