during day let him get used to his bed that he goes and lies there its warm and has a cozy blanket so he knows this is his bed,try a cuddly toy at night and ignore him crying no matter how hard ,during day give him periods without u so he gets used to being alone if you have been with him all day of course he going to cry when alone .
maybe put in garden for few minutes and praising when he's good.
he just needs to know he can be alone and you are still there .

aaawww i feel 4 you i just got a new dog a bullmastiff! he was brought in 2 my home at 6 weeks old and there really is nothing you can do to help my husband stayed up all night 3 nights in a row with our dog and he still cryed
you have to remember that he has just been taking away from his parents and will not be settled in yet what we done and it helped a lot was to buy a wee bed and put it right next to our bed!
but the crying will eventually stop even though its a long time!! felt like forever for me and my husband lol i feel 4 you
but he will stop eventually
did you get a blanket from his mum and dads basket where he would have slept b4 you got him as he will be able to smell them and feel a wee bit more settled
hope this helps you all the best enjoy having him hard work at the moment but the love he will give you at the end of it will make it all worth while

I had exactly the same thing - got a puppy at 8 weeks and she cried unbelieveably loudly night after night. I tried all the advice people gave me. Eventually I wore an old pair of slippers all day and then put them with her when I left her at night (so she could still smell my scent). Didn't get a whimper out of her after that. Sounds bizarre I know but seemed to work. Good luck - it will all be worth it

well first he has been taken from his siblings and now that he is alone. the only thing you can do is give him alot of attention and then when you put him in his crate and he starts to howl just ignore him because eventually he will stop. the other thing that you can do is put the crate in your room next to your bed, if can see you he might stop the howling. most dogs need the companionship of another dog or they need the company of their new owners in the same room. also you just need alot of patience for this. it will be awhile but in the end it will be all worth it. good luck

It brings back memories. I was weak! I couldn't take it anymore and let him in my room. Before I knew it, he was in bed. Now he is 105 lbs, and sleeps with me every night. If you have a big enough bed, and the dog is clean - why not just do this. You will have a nice companion to keep you safe and there won't be any howling.

Hot water bottle and clock should do the trick. Put the puppy bed next to yours so when it wakes up it can be reassured by touch of your hand - it howling and crying because it is frightened.

its gonna take a while for him to forget his mum & siblings, that's why he's howling & crying, put yourself in his shoes then you will understand WHY...try giving him a nice cuddly toy to snuggle up to otherwise either put up with it till he stops or make his bed a little nearer you i.e the top of the stairs then start moving him downstairs a bit at a time once he stopped the crying. Good luck

I have heard that wrapping a ticking clock in a towel and popping it under his blanket can help. This remins them of their mothers heartbeat when he is snuggled up at night and can help to sooth them.

When my dog was a puppy I bought him a big soft toy in a charity shop for about £2 which he cuddled up to at night. As he grew up he started to play with it and eventually ripped it limb from limb. Luckily by then he had got used to sleeping alone!!!

get a hot water bottle and fill with warm water. get a clock that makes a ticking sound. Place both in the dogs bed at bed time. the hot water bottle will mimic the mothers warm body and the clock the mothers heart beat
