Why does mens hair go orange when it is dyed?

It's not men's hair. All hair will turn orange when it's bleached if you don't get the right hair color or if you don't leave the bleach on for long enough. If you hair has red base tones and you put bleach on it, it's going to go through about ten different shades before it gets to blonde. One of those shades is orange. Either leave the hair dye on longer, or prevent this totally by picking a dye that has the word "ash" in it. That means that it has a green base tone rather than a red base. No, your hair won't turn green....this just counteracts the red and makes it come out even.

If you have dark hair and you dye it a lighter shade, it will turn orange. Call the 1-800 # on the side of the product you are using for better dye shades and problem solving.

you need to use a higher percentage cream developer.
30 or 40 vol depending on what you want the result to be.

the hair dyes you buy in the supermarket aren't strong enough to lighten dark hair that much

For the first time at least go to a hair salon to have your hair lightened then you only have to deal with the regrowth.

because the dye you are using has a red base color, try something with a differant color, or if you are using bleach on dark hair it turns it orangy get a toner take the orange out....best advice go to sally's...those chics know their hair dye.
