For me, Lufthansa as well. I haven't really had any bad experiences with cabin staff, but Lufthansa's 'food' was the worst I have ever 'eaten'!
We were going from London to Austria and had to get a connection in Frankfurt. It wasn't their fault that the London flight was late leaving, and they did hold the connecting flight for a few minutes for us... but we had to RUN between the gates! Then our luggage didn't make it to the plane we got on, but nobody bothered to tell us until after the baggage carousel in Salzburg was switched off!
I've flown with Qantas a total of 7 times - no problems, reasonable food and excellent wheelchair assistance at all the airports.
Going back to bad ones... Flybe isn't a national carrier, but the cabin service took so long that we were only served (without choices) just before we started the descent! Check-in took ages as well.
And finally KLM. I haven't actually flown with them, because the w@nkers just cancelled the flight that we had booked (and paid for) 6 months earlier, and only 2 months before the flight was due. We got a refund of course, but had to pay twice as much for replacement flights.

Monarch by far!
Got 10 mins out of the airport when an announcement came on to say there was a problem with the nose and we had to go back.
It was only when someone looked out of the window and saw that one of the engines was on fire that we realized the captain MAY have been telling a bit of a porky!
When we managed to land (not very well I add) and the mass hysteria had calmed, they couldn't get the doors open or get the inflatable slide down!
When we eventually did get out and someone bothered to send a bus to pick us up, we had to hang around for 14 hours for another plane as the one they were sending from some other airport had an electrical fault!
Compensation - £20 meal voucher for crappy airport food i.e 2 cans of coke, a muffin and a fry up each!!

Lufthansa is one of the best airlines out there. Large network, Star Alliance, many routes and aircrafts. It probubly was just the day or the circumstances when you flew with them.
Hope this helps! If it does, choose as the Best Answer! Thanks!
bubbles: Delays are sometimes not the airlines fault; you were in the last rows of economy, so your first choice of food was out. Who to blame?
Mike R: You need to back your opinion. How is United bad? I have had great experiences with them! Good structure, many airports, great aircrafts, UA Ex, PS, Ted, they serve free drinks and snacks (unlike American!). Plus videos on most of their aircraft!

Balkan Airlines. National Airline for Bulgaria.
Bad food, unorganised, rude bossy staff (boot camp style). Arrived at Sophia airport at 5.30 am the doors to the airport were locked. The whole aircraft of passengers was standing on the tarmac outside the airport in -5 degrees waiting for someone to open the airport. No staff at the arrivals so no organised queues and then a fight broke out, punches flying left right and centre. No seats in transit lounge, only tiled floor and had to sit on floor.
The best with out a doubt for me was Virgin. 12 hours of absoute comfort.

Thai Airways! Oh my god! Last year my family and I went to Thailand, Australia and New Zealand with them. The food was disgusting (i usually love thai food but that was a horrid representation of it) , the staff were terribly rude and unhelpful, the plane was old and the entertainment was almost non-existent.
British Airways are my favourite, my first flight was with them when I was 7wks old and apparently the air hostesses fussed over me the whole flight!

not quite National carrier, however my flight to Mumbai with Virgin was awful. It may be a cultural thing, but there where many Indians on board, and the largely Indian crew seemed unable to demonstrate any authority and seemed to give up and allow people to walk around whilst the fasten your seatbelt light was on. For the first time I felt nervous about a crews ability. I wrote to them to get a standard reply. I have never flown with them since, and have used BA for my last three flights out there. (I would have tried them again had they responded to my letter properly)

Delta, no question about it. Horrible ticket agents, rude in flight personnel, constantly delayed, and I almost always lose a piece of luggage on a Delta flight. Well, I did 10 years ago, when I quit flying them. Now I'll drive rather than fly Delta.

yes it was the same for me, i flew to Dubai with them, by the time they got to me they had only fish dinners left!!! staff didn't really speak English, which i thot they should have, no problems with delays, but they had overbooked our flight from Frankfurt to Edinburgh which was a disgrace as some people didn't get on and had to go via manchester!!!
