First of all, you should ashamed of your self, because when you don't know a single word about Islam and Islamic society then you shouldn't talk like this.
All Muslims are open minded within the limits of Islam. There are some defaulters and extremists in every society and you couldn't denied it. Than why you all non Muslims are always criticise only Islam and Muslim society. We all Muslims don't need any advice from any other religions and societies. We faith in our Almighty Allah and he will guide us.
First of all you need to know the basics of every religion and society than you could criticise anyone.
Best Regards and Best Wishes for All Muslim Societies.

I think muslims understands other religions and societies more they (muslims) are understood by the others(societies/religions).

Muslims understanding of the religions (christianity & judaism are only other religions recognise in islam) and stem from Quran.

As for understanding the societies, what societies are we talking about? (Gays, Racist Etc) or is it the ones that gave people freedom of religion and yet not allowed people to practice their religion the way it should be? how about the societies that take civil conflicts, fights for freedom/ emancitipations/apatheid as religious intolerence.
No matter how open minded one is he can never understands why is only few societies that have the monopoly of doing whatever they like in their own societies yet others cannot do so in their own (even if they live in different countries). why is it right for criminal to be executed in an electric chair in another country while it is barbaric in another to behead a criminal(death is death whether by sword/bombs/electricity/gas etc). The list is endless. If other societies want muslim to understand them, they should as well have an open mind in understanding the muslim.

Understanding begets Understanding, respect begets respect, open mindedness begets open mindedness all these are not respecter of religion or soceity.

I agree. the muslim community seems to be carrying on with a very rigid mental framework which doesnt seem very open to changes and new ideas. If only they could come out of the shell they would understand that they mostly tend to tie up their younger generation in their ideas rather than letting them explore their own horizons. I dont say tht all the muslims are the same and neither do i support racism, its just that they support it so they are often classified as a separate section in the society.

This is a good question. The answer is that they always have.

Most muslims understand well other religions and have had many different faiths living in islamic societies. eg the jews in Muslim spain had their "golden age" and found santuary from persecution from the rest of Christian Europe, and even managed to revive the dead hebrew language there. In contrast, the spanish inquisition exterminated other beliefs very efficiently and brutally.

Have you tried opening your mind to understanding Islam?

Indeed there is a need for muslims to open up their minds. Islam has become a very rigid and ritualistic religion. Religion is a matter of personal faith, there is no need to involve it in the matters of politics and society. Involving 1500 years old social norms to present day modern society is retrogressive and unreasonable.

so is that why the USA occupying Iraq to force it's believe on its culture? is that open mind?

speaking about understanding other societies. open the TV in a Muslim country you will see tons of American movies/shows all over. they have an idea of what's going on on the west, they also communicate with the worlds thru economic, Internet, tourists.

you don't understand this religion. Muslims know for certain that Islam is from God, they are not just guessing or assuming. they know that the word of God should be taking seriously.

No they don't...

They are already ready to understand and sympathize with other cultures, the fact is that on the other side, pple can't tolerate Muslims anymore

By thinking that all Muslims are a planes bombers, they don't let for them any chance to feel welcomed
so please don't accuse Muslims, don't even think that they are not open minded...

Stop looking disdain Muslims, and you will see what can they do for the best of humanity...

Peace !!

They must have the willingness to keep away their pagan belief that all rest of the world are wrong.

A person who thinks that he is superior to the rest can never be spiritual. The first step of spirituality is accepting others. Next step, live the way we preach so that others will follow us. Islam doesn't want to take both these steps. They take weapons and threat others to convert to Islam.

Have you seen the recent call by Al Qaeda asking Americans to accept Islam? A good evidence....
